Overview

Scope Of The Role

The Inspection Support Technician Engineer will:

  • Share skills and expertise with colleagues to enhance and expand the knowledge and performance of the team.
  • Solve problems and support implementation of modifications and changes to ensure efficient inspection and commissioning of machines, refurbishments and retools, working closely with all internal customers as required.
  • Provide second level technical support to the inspection team when initial attempts and resolutions have failed.
  • Support a culture of positive change, continuous improvement and act as a role model.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Train and support new members of the inspection and install team.
  • Carry out inspection activities according to safety, quality, time and cost requirements.
  • Share best practices with team members, encouraging a standard approach to problem solving.
  • Support the sales team during the sales process, as and when necessary, with process and product capabilities, to help align them with customer technical requirements for machines, refurbishments and retools, proposing cost effective and wherever possible, standard solutions.
  • Support the building of expertise in the team to ensure the needed skills for now and in the future.
  • Support R & D projects.
  • Cooperate with other departments, working together to deliver customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in root cause analysis, 8D reviews etc. as and when necessary to resolve issues and help prevent them from reoccurring.
  • Understand, and work at all times in line with Fives Values and Directives; specifically following the highest standards of health and safety.
  • Responsible for all aspects of Data Protection, Information Security and Cyber Security.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested.

Other Duties

  • Compile inspection folders for machines.
  • Support factory order, software, process, go/no go, project launch meetings.
  • Ensure out of hours running of compressors/coolant systems for extended runs.
  • Check levels/top-up coolant systems as required and coordinate any repairs with maintenance, including repairs to FLL chillers, booster pumps, return tanks etc.
  • Support the Inspection and Technical Support Manager to maintain and update inspection check lists.
  • Arrange and chase modifications of parts, hand carried prints.
  • Support machine pass-offs/customer demos.
  • Review pre-check results of customer components and advise impact on capability to sales.
  • Verify capability results together with the inspector before sharing with sales/customer and determine overall result.
  • Advise any issues due to customer input quality or issues and actions to resolve machine problems.
  • Arrange correction of non-conforming manufactured/supplied components and, where necessary, completion of FFRs for faulty parts/equipment are actioned.
  • Support machine handover, summarising pre-inspection marks/shortages etc that can affect pre-acceptance.
  • Ensure handover docs are complete.
  • Work with the Inspection and Technical Support Manager to continually improve inspection procedures, product, process and work instructions.
  • Control of customer components prior to demo, ensuring packaging is retained/reused and shafts correctly packed or disposed of following demo.
  • Support tooling discussions and maintaining grinding wheel database.
  • Review service supports and provide tech support to Service Engineers during installs (remote support).
  • Finalise machine acceptance reports in a timely manner (following ex-works) so handover to service/install can be completed.
  • Keep up to date with FLL and third-party software/hardware/setup procedures.
  • Support ISO audits as and when required.

  • Technical knowledge and experience of working on a wide range of Fives Landis grinding machines.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to identify and solve problems under pressure.
  • Effective communication skills, to work with people at all levels within the business and the ability to build relationships.
  • Achieves results; has a focus on delivery and customer service.
  • Has a continuous improvement approach and able to adapt to change.
  • Significant experience within a manufacturing/engineering environment.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team.
  • Able to manage own time and meet tight deadlines.
