About the company: Our client is a highly respected and established main contractor based in Oxfordshire, specialising in the delivery of multi-sector construction projects. With a portfolio that includes commercial, hospitality, residential and education, they pride themselves on delivering projects of up to £70m in value. As part of their continued growth and success, they are looking to expand their Estimating team to support the increasing volume of competitive tenders they are managing.
The Role: As a Construction Estimator/Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for leading the cost estimation process for a range of high-value projects, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness in the tendering process. You will play a key role in preparing detailed and competitive cost estimates, liaising with subcontractors and suppliers, and supporting the wider project team during the tender phase.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and analyse tender documentation, including drawings, specifications, and site surveys, to ensure a full understanding of the project scope.
- Produce accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for multi-sector construction projects (typically in the £1M - £50M range).
- Prepare and submit competitive tenders, ensuring they meet both client requirements and company standards.
- Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to gather quotations and ensure the most accurate costs are applied.
- Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate these, ensuring the most competitive tender is submitted.
- Ensure all estimates align with the company's commercial and quality standards.
- Work closely with the senior management team to deliver tenders on time and within budget.
- Monitor industry trends, market prices, and competitor activity to ensure the company remains competitive.
- Support post-tender activities, including value engineering, cost planning, and contract negotiations.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Construction Estimator with a main contractor, ideally with exposure to projects up to £50m in value.
- Strong knowledge of construction techniques, materials, and current market conditions.
- Experience preparing competitive tenders within strict deadlines.
- Ability to interpret and analyse technical drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with estimating software (Conquest) and proficiency in MS Office.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- A degree or relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field is advantageous.
- Proficient in SMM7/NRM2.
