About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and confident Senior Accountant to join our growing practice based at our new offices on Clifton Fields, just outside Kirkham.

The role sits between our Apprentice and Practice Manager in terms of level and responsibility. You will report directly to the Manager, while also providing support and guidance to the Apprentice when required.

This is a varied role suited to someone with solid practice experience who is comfortable working independently, managing their own workload and dealing directly with a range of clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing full sets of limited company accounts from client records through to completion and submission.
  • Preparing accounts and tax returns for sole traders and partnerships.
  • Preparing and submitting Corporation Tax Returns (CT600).
  • Preparing Self Assessment tax returns where required.
  • Completing bookkeeping and maintaining accurate accounting records.
  • Reviewing client records and identifying any issues or information required.
  • Communicating with clients to obtain records and resolve queries.
  • Managing your own portfolio of clients and ensuring work is completed accurately and within deadlines.
  • Assisting with general practice administration and client-related tasks.
  • Reviewing work where appropriate and supporting the Apprentice with their day-to-day work and development.
  • Working closely with the Manager and assisting with wider practice responsibilities as required.
  • Maintaining high standards of accuracy, organisation and confidentiality.

About You

We are looking for someone who has previous experience working within an accountancy practice and is confident handling accounts work independently.

You should have:

  • Previous experience in an accountancy practice.
  • Good practical experience preparing accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
  • Experience preparing Corporation Tax Returns and associated tax computations.
  • Strong bookkeeping and accounting knowledge.
  • The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
  • Good attention to detail and a methodical approach.
  • Good communication skills and confidence dealing with clients.
  • The ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
  • A willingness to support and assist more junior members of the team.

Relevant accounting qualifications are desirable, although practical experience and technical ability will also be strongly considered.

Software Experience

Experience with accountancy and practice software would be beneficial, particularly:

  • Xero
  • FreeAgent
  • BrightManager
  • Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

We are happy to provide training on systems where required, but you should be comfortable working with accounting software and adapting to new systems.

Working Hours

Working days and hours to be discussed depending on individual circumstances and the needs of the practice.
