Psychology Graduate SEMH Learning Partner

Role Overview

2.0 Provide a one‑to‑one support partnership with a primary‑aged pupil in a Bristol school from September.

Responsibilities

  • Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil.
  • Support the child’s emotional regulation and social development.
  • Help the pupil access learning within the classroom.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies in collaboration with the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Provide consistent encouragement and reassurance throughout the school day.
  • Support the development of confidence, self‑esteem and independence.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, parents and external professionals where required.
  • Ideal Candidate
  • Holds a degree in Psychology or a related subject.
  • Has genuine interest in SEN, SEMH and child development.
  • Is patient, empathetic and emotionally resilient.
  • Has strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • Understands behaviour as a form of communication.
  • Is able to remain calm and positive in challenging situations.
  • Previous experience with children, young people or vulnerable individuals is desirable but not essential.

Essential Criteria

  • Ability to work 5 days a week (term‑time only), Monday‑Friday 8:30–15:30.
  • Right to work in the UK – sponsorship or skilled worker visa not accepted.
  • Minimum two recent references covering the last two years.
  • Up‑to‑date DBS/police check, or willingness to obtain one. (If you lack a Non‑Voluntary Enhanced DBS, you will be helped to process one at a cost of £62.70, refunded after 20 days of work.)
