We are seeking a calm, compassionate, and resilient Learning Support Assistant to provide dedicated support to pupils at a welcoming, inclusive, and forward-thinking mainstream primary school. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference within a supportive school community that values consistency, empathy, and positive relationships.

The role involves delivering structured 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with a range of additional needs, including ASC, ADHD, and SEMH. Some pupils present with behavioural challenges, requiring a confident, proactive, and composed approach. Full-time availability is preferred but not essential. You will work closely with class teachers and the SENDCo to create a nurturing, secure, and engaging learning environment where pupils feel understood, respected, and empowered to succeed.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide targeted 1:1 or small-group support tailored to pupils' individual learning, social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
  • Build trusting, positive relationships that promote confidence, self-regulation, and engagement with learning.
  • Use calm de-escalation strategies, clear boundaries, and consistent approaches to manage and reduce challenging behaviour.
  • Collaborate proactively with teaching staff and the SENDCo to implement behaviour plans and personalised learning strategies.
  • Support pupils during unstructured times (such as break and lunch) to promote safety, inclusion, and positive social interaction.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and encouraging classroom environment where all learners can thrive.
What We're Looking For
  • Experience working with children with SEND, behavioural needs, or in education, care, youth work, or behaviour support (desirable but not essential).
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach combined with confidence in setting boundaries.
  • Resilience, proactivity, and the ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations.
  • A strong commitment to consistent, high-quality, child-centred support.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside staff and families.
  • Attitude, adaptability, and the ability to build trust are key.

If you are passionate about helping children feel safe, valued, and capable of success, this role offers a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting impact.

Essential requirements:
  • Right to work in the UK - we are unable to offer Sponsorship or accept Skilled Worker visas.
  • Able to provide two recent references (from the last two years).
  • Hold a current DBS check registered on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one.

Please note, if you do not have a Non-Voluntary Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, we will need to help you process a new one at a cost of £62.70. This will be refunded after 20 days of work with us.

What can Five Education offer you?
  • Free specialised training in areas such as Team Teach, Makaton, PMLD/SLD Awareness, Autism Awareness, and more.
  • Free DBS (refunded when you work 20 days).
  • Recommending a friend bonus scheme.
  • Specialist support/mentoring while you are working.

If you think this could be a job for you, please get in touch to find out more from Joseph. We are always available for an informal chat if you want to find out more about whether this role is suited to you.
