Five Education is recruiting a Teaching Assistant for a special school in Chard. The role involves supporting identified pupils with Special Education Needs (SEN) and/or mental health challenges, primarily working 1:1 or in small groups.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting pupils throughout the day, helping them to remain focused and on task.
  • Guiding pupils when they are struggling, helping them to become regulated and calm.

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Emotionally resilient and able to stay calm in challenging situations.
  • Strong communicator with a positive and proactive mindset.
  • Able to build rapport with young people, especially those who may struggle to trust adults.
  • Previous experience in youth work, care, mental health, sport, or support work is valuable, but not essential.
  • Free to work 5 days a week.

Essential Requirements:

  • Right to work in the UK; no sponsorship or Skilled Worker visas available.
  • Provide two recent references (from the last two years).
  • Hold a current DBS check registered on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one. If you do not have a Non‑Voluntary Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, we will help process a new one at a cost of £62.70, which will be refunded after 20 days of work.

Pay:

Five Education operates a PAYE payroll. Pay rate is for illustration and includes holiday pay. No hidden fees such as admin fees or employer's NI.

Vetting:

Successful applicants will undergo reference checks, TRA checks, and require a DBS. An interview will also be scheduled.
