We are seeking a calm, resilient, and compassionate Behaviour Mentor to support children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs at a welcoming and supportive school in Bridgwater. This role is ideal for someone who is confident in building strong relationships, setting clear boundaries, and supporting pupils to develop emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and engagement with learning. You will play a key role in helping pupils feel safe, understood, and supported to succeed both academically and socially.

Working hours are 8:30am - 3:30pm. We are ideally looking for full-time availability; however, part-time applications are also welcome.

The Role

  • Provide 1:1 and small group behaviour support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Build trusting, consistent relationships that encourage emotional regulation and positive decision-making
  • Support pupils to manage behaviour using calm de-escalation strategies and clear, consistent boundaries
  • Work closely with teaching staff, SENCo, and pastoral teams to implement behaviour plans and support strategies
  • Support pupils during unstructured times (breaks, lunch, transitions) to promote safety, inclusion, and positive interactions
  • Help pupils re-engage with learning by removing emotional and behavioural barriers
  • Record and share observations to support reviews, progress tracking, and planning

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, or additional needs
  • A calm, patient, and emotionally intelligent approach, even in challenging situations
  • Confidence in setting boundaries while maintaining a nurturing, relationship-led style
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine commitment to supporting wellbeing, inclusion, and positive outcomes

Essential requirements:

  • Right to work in the UK - we are unable to offer Sponsorship or accept Skilled Worker visas.
  • Able to provide two recent references (from the last two years).
  • Hold a current DBS check registered on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one.
