Five Education is seeking dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistants to work in specialist schools supporting children and young people with complex needs, including Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Autism. These roles involve providing personal care and require staff who are comfortable with all aspects of support.

The Role:

You will work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to support students' learning, wellbeing, and personal development. The pupils you will be supporting may be non-verbal, require mobility assistance, and need tailored support to access education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide personal care including feeding, toileting, and hygiene
  • Support students with learning activities tailored to individual needs
  • Use a range of communication tools such as Makaton or PECS (if trained)
  • Encourage independence and positive behaviour
  • Work 1:1 or in small groups in calm and sensory-based environments
  • Assist with moving and handling (training provided if needed)

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND
  • Comfortable providing personal care
  • Patience, resilience, and a nurturing approach
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare

Desirable:

  • Manual handling and Team Teach training
  • Experience in specialist schools or similar settings
  • Driving licence and access to a car (some sites may not be easily accessible by public transport)

Pay

Five Education operates a PAYE payroll - the most transparent way to be paid with no hidden fees such as admin charges or employer's NI. Please note, pay rate is illustrative and includes holiday pay.

Vetting

Five Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants will undergo checks including reference and TRA checks. If you do not have a non-voluntary enhanced DBS on the update service, a new DBS will need to be processed at a cost of £62.70, refunded after 20 days of work and once registered to the update service.
