Are you a Psychology graduate looking to gain hands-on experience working with young people who have experienced trauma, social difficulties, or challenges with emotional regulation? We are recruiting resilient people to work as Teaching Assistants in an alternative provision for students who have been excluded from mainstream settings.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates considering careers in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Mental Health, Youth Work, or Teaching.

The School

An alternative provision supporting students who have experienced trauma, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), behavioural difficulties and disrupted education. Classes are small, highly structured and supported by an experienced and trauma-informed staff team. Students follow personalised learning plans to help them re-engage with education in a safe environment.

The Role

  • Full-time role supporting secondary-age students
  • Helping young people regulate their emotions and re-engage with learning
  • Building trusting, therapeutic relationships
  • Supporting personalised learning programmes designed to meet individual needs
  • Working with a team that uses restorative and trauma-informed practice
  • Assisting both in lessons and during off-site learning activities

We're looking for psychology graduates who:

  • Are emotionally resilient and able to remain calm under pressure
  • Are passionate about improving outcomes for young people
  • Want experience working with trauma, attachment, emotional regulation and behaviour
  • Can build strong, positive relationships
  • Are proactive, patient and reflective
  • Have experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable groups (desirable but not essential)

Desirable:

  • Experience in PRUs, SEMH settings, care, youth work or mentoring
  • Drivers (not essential, but helpful for AP settings)
