RESPONSIBLE TO: Nurse Manager and ACF Partners
JOB SUMMARY:
- To assist trained clinical staff to care for patients at the surgery.
- To undertake delegated tasks independently as directed by a qualified Nurse or Doctor once deemed competent by the surgery.
- To report to the nursing/clinical staff any changes or concerns about patients immediately.
- To work as a team member demonstrating a consistent high level of interpersonal and communication skills.
- To maintain high standards of professionalism.
- To maintain skill/competence and undertake appropriate training in order to achieve this i.e: the HCA Care Certificate or NVQ Level 2 or 3 (training can be given).
- To work safely, legally and ethically with respect to the cultural, emotional and diverse needs of others.
MAIN DUTIES OF THE JOB:
- Phlebotomy/butterfly blood sampling
- Simple Dressings
- ECGs
- Blood pressure monitoring
- Urine testing/Sample collection/Preparation of specimens ready for collection
- Peak Flow recording
- Height/Weight/BMI recording
- Assist in medical emergencies e.g. CPR
- Computer information input
- Assisting nurses/doctors with complex procedures
- Provide advice and support to patients and carers where appropriate and within own levels of competence
- Ensure clinical waste is placed for collection
- Maintain supplies in Consulting and Treatment rooms
- Attend and participate in Nursing and Clinical team meetings
- Attend appropriate training and updates
- Complete HCA Core Competency training
- Adopt a flexible attitude to take account of changes within the service

- Long Term Conditions initial assessment
- NHS Health Checks & 24 hour B/p monitoring

Fitzalan Medical Group is in Partnership with Angmering Medical Group known as ACF PCN. Fitzalan Surgery is located in Littlehampton, West Sussex. We are a busy surgery with a highly effective friendly Nurse team who pride themselves on offering the best possible care to our local population. We are supportive of training and our staff extending their knowledge and roles.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
- HCA experience.
- HCA Core Competency Certificate or NVQ level 2 or willing to attain.
- Experience in Primary/Community Care/HCA Role.
- Experience of Computer held patient records.
- Interest in further training/extending role.
- Qualified to NVQ Level 3.
