We are looking for an enthusiastic and capable Assistant / Junior Mechanical Project Manager to support our growing retail fit-out portfolio. This is an excellent development opportunity for someone with mechanical services experience (HVAC, plumbing, ventilation) looking to progress into full project management in a fast-paced, client-focused environment. You will work closely with experienced Project Managers, gaining hands-on exposure across the full project lifecycle while contributing to successful delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Mechanical Project Manager in delivering retail fit-out projects (HVAC, plumbing, ventilation, and associated mechanical systems) from pre-construction to practical completion and handover.
- Assist in developing and updating project programmes, schedules, resource plans, and progress tracking.
- Help coordinate site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure smooth day-to-day execution.
- Participate in site surveys, assist in producing Site Audit Reports, and support accurate scoping, costing, and procurement activities.
- Liaise with clients, main contractors, consultants, and supply chain under guidance to communicate updates, track progress, and help resolve issues.
- Support identification and management of risks, variations, changes, and issues, ensuring scope, programme, and budget are controlled.
- Assist with sourcing and procurement of labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractors; contribute to building and maintaining the subcontractor database.
- Promote and support high standards of health & safety on all sites, including compliance checks and reporting.
- Help implement BIM, LEAN principles, and digital tools where required, gaining exposure to modern construction methodologies.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, prepare reports, track deliverables, and contribute to client satisfaction and quality handover.
Requirements:
- Relevant experience in mechanical services (commercial HVAC, plumbing, ventilation, air conditioning) – ideally within fit-out, construction, or M&E environments (e.g., site engineer, mechanical coordinator, or junior role; 1–4 years preferred but graduates/apprentices with strong potential considered).
- Degree, HNC/HND, relevant apprenticeship, or time-served qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Solid understanding of commercial plumbing, ventilation, air conditioning, and mechanical systems.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills; able to liaise effectively with teams, clients, and stakeholders.
- Proactive, organised, and able to work independently on tasks while seeking guidance when needed.
- Competent in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel, Word, Project) and basic planning/scheduling software; exposure to Revit, AutoCAD, Trimble, Navisworks, or BIM tools is advantageous.
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel to sites/offices as required (hybrid/remote with site visits).
- Strong commitment to health & safety, quality, and continuous learning.
