Role Summary
This role will work closely with a well-established client base in the Filey, Scarborough, Whitby and Hartlepool areas, encompassing working fishermen and their families as well as former fishermen and fishermen’s widows. As a Support Officer, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference by helping people navigate challenges, access support, and improve their wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry a client case load
- Build connections with local organisations
- Outreach to Harbours
- Facilitate client events
- Support the delivery of a National Fishing Remembrance Day service in your area
- Support fundraising activities across the area
- Health and Safety responsibilities
Essential Skills and Experience
- Experience in supporting vulnerable individuals (whether through health, age, poverty or circumstance) to achieve positive outcomes both face to face and remotely.
- Experience of supporting individuals across at least 2 of the following areas:
- Assessing complex needs
- Completing grant applications on behalf of individuals
- Accessing public funds
- Making referrals
- Signposting to other organisations
- Mental Health Support
- Physical health support
- Excellent organisational and planning skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently, prioritising work and knowing when to seek support
- Experience in using CRM systems
- Excellent IT skills with good knowledge of Microsoft 365
- Ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships across a broad range of client, stakeholders and partner organisations
- Ability to work within the Christian Ethos of the Fishermen’s Mission
- Full UK driving licence and ability to use own car for business travel (expenses reimbursed)
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience of working within a charity or not for profit organisation
- Practicing Christian
- Experience of speaking to a range of audiences about the work that you do, the benefits and impact
- Knowledge of the UK benefits system
- Experience of undertaking community fundraising
- Experience of completing risk assessments
- Mental Health First Aid Certification
- First Aid at Work Certification
- Understanding and experience of safeguarding procedures
- Knowledge of key issues impacting current and former fishermen and their families
