The Team & Focus of the Role

At Fisher German, our people and clients are at the heart of what we do.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Accounting & Delivery team within Commercial Property Management. The Assistant Client Accountant will play a central role in delivering key client accounting processes, helping to ensure that financial information, transactions and control activities are completed accurately, consistently and within agreed timescales.

The role is operational and process-focused, with work allocated and monitored through dashboards, workflows and agreed key performance indicators (KPIs). The successful candidate will therefore be comfortable managing varying workloads, responding to changing priorities and maintaining a high standard of accuracy while working to clear deadlines and service levels.

Working closely with Client Accountants and wider property management teams, the Assistant Client Accountant will support day-to-day financial processing, reconciliations, reporting and query resolution. The role provides a strong foundation for developing technical property accounting knowledge and progressing within the client accounting function.

This is a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours) role based at our Birmingham office. We also operate a hybrid working policy.

Duties will include:

Dashboard, Workflow & KPI Management

  • Manage assigned tasks through operational dashboards and workflow systems, ensuring work is progressed and completed within agreed deadlines.
  • Prioritise daily and periodic workloads in line with KPIs, service levels and client requirements.
  • Monitor outstanding items, follow up dependencies and escalate risks, delays or capacity concerns promptly.
  • Maintain accurate task statuses and clear audit trails so that progress and performance can be readily monitored.
  • Adapt to varying transaction volumes and changing priorities while maintaining consistent quality and attention to detail.

Core Client Accounting Processes

  • Process and maintain accurate financial transactions and accounting records for commercial property clients and associated entities.
  • Support bank, control account and balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving differences within agreed timescales.
  • Prepare journals, cashbook entries, tenant and supplier account adjustments and other routine accounting entries for review where required.
  • Support rent, service charge, insurance and other property-related billing processes in accordance with approved instructions and timetables.
  • Assist with cash allocation, payment processing, account maintenance and period-end activities.
  • Ensure supporting documentation is complete, appropriately authorised and retained in line with company procedures.

Reporting & Data Quality

  • Assist with the preparation of regular and ad hoc client accounting reports, schedules and supporting information.
  • Complete checks to confirm that reports and source data are accurate, complete and internally consistent.
  • Investigate exceptions, aged items and unusual balances, working with colleagues to resolve issues.
  • Support the maintenance of accurate property, lease, tenant, supplier and client accounting data.
  • Provide clear updates on progress, outstanding information and matters requiring review or escalation.

Financial Control & Compliance

  • Follow documented accounting processes, financial controls and approval requirements.
  • Support Client Accountants with maintaining client money records and control activities in accordance with internal requirements and applicable regulation.
  • Complete assigned reconciliations and control checks to the required standard and timetable.
  • Identify errors, control gaps or recurring issues and raise them promptly with the appropriate colleague.
  • Provide information and supporting evidence for internal reviews, client queries and audit activity.

Stakeholder & Query Management

  • Work collaboratively with Client Accountants, Property Managers, Facilities Managers and wider Accounting & Delivery colleagues.
  • Respond to routine accounting queries in a clear, professional and timely manner, escalating complex or sensitive matters where appropriate.
  • Build effective working relationships across Credit Control, Service Charge Accounting, Onboarding, Finance Operations and Systems teams.
  • Support the smooth handover of accounting information during client, property and portfolio onboarding or offboarding activity.
  • Deliver a responsive, customer-focused service aligned with agreed client requirements.

Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Use Yardi and associated finance, workflow and reporting systems accurately and consistently.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and contribute practical feedback where processes could be clearer or more efficient.
  • Support automation, standardisation and data-quality initiatives across Accounting & Delivery.
  • Participate in training and development activity to build technical accounting, commercial property and systems knowledge.
  • Contribute positively to a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and collaborative delivery.

You will also maintain key relationships with both internal (Client Accountants, Property Managers, Facilities Managers, Asset Managers, Credit Control, Service Charge Accounting team, Onboarding team, Finance Operations, Systems, and wider Accounting & Delivery colleagues) and external (Clients, Auditors, Suppliers, Tenant and Tenant representatives, where appropriate to the responsibilities of the role) stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have...

Essential

  • Experience in an accounting, finance, property administration or high-volume transactional environment.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Comfort working within a structured, dashboard-led environment where performance is measured against KPIs and service levels.
  • High levels of accuracy, attention to detail and personal accountability.
