Team Fishel, the Best Choice Employer in the utility construction business, is hiring a GIS Technician to support telecommunication projects in our Stafford, VA office. The ideal candidate will require critical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. The GIS Technician will be responsible for working closely with engineering and permitting staff to produce high quality maps from existing designs, identify spatial relationships inside infrastructure, and verbally communicate specifications and directions to and from the design and right of way teams. An ideal candidate will also take initiative, provide new solutions to existing problems, and experiment with existing systems.
Responsibilities
- Completion of all GIS tasks to all internal and external client specifications.
- Conduct research and determine the best methods for analyzing data; implement those methods in accordance with industry standards.
- Organize GIS data so it is easily identifiable and effortless to locate.
- Ensure accuracy and quality in all data sources and mapping products.
- Ensure work is conducted within the assigned constraints (i.e., budget and schedule) at the project and program levels.
- Review blueprints, plans, specifications, and other customer documentation in multiple formats.
- Provide technical support for coordination and projection of information and related issues.
- Maintain a job log within the database to include individual status and historical data.
Required Knowledge
- Knowledge of Geographical Information Systems and the basic principles thereof.
- Knowledge of ESRI products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online).
- Critical and analytical thinking skills.
- Familiarity with open-source data collection in regards to geospatial data.
- Knowledge of file storage systems.
- Ability to read and write technical documentation.
Preferred Qualifications (not required)
- Experience in Python scripting or other programming languages.
- Experience with SQI, PostgreSQL, PostGIS, or other database management tools.
- Experience or familiarity with AutoCAD or other design programs.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
- Ability to read and understand engineering plans and maps.
- Familiarity with telecommunications and other underground utilities.
