The Role

We are seeking a skilled and innovative hands‑on Naval Architect/Project Manager with good attention to detail to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will need to apply existing experience to new problems to ensure creative, robust and workable solutions. In this role you will be responsible for the design, analysis, and development of marine vessels through many sectors as well as managing projects and liaising with clients. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure technical integrity, safety, and performance of projects across design, construction, and operation phases.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage project and customer relations alongside senior team members.
• Develop vessel designs including hull forms, structure, and systems in compliance with regulatory standards and project requirements.
• Perform hydrostatic calculations, stability assessments, and weight estimates.
• Evaluate resistance, propulsion, and seakeeping performance using empirical methods, computational tools and model testing.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant international standards and class rules.
• Prepare design drawings, specifications, analysis reports and technical documentation for internal review and client submissions.
• Engage in design reviews, meetings, and communications with clients and stakeholders.
• Provide technical support during build, assembly, trials, and commissioning phases; conduct inspections and resolve design‑related issues.
• Support development of design proposals, future concepts, innovation and R&D.
• Produce clear and considered information and drawings for use by yards and class societies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or related field.
• 2–5+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Proficiency with naval architecture and design software such as Maxsurf or similar.
• Knowledge of design standards and classification society rules.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication and technical report writing ability.
• Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
• Eagerness to develop and take initiative in a fast‑paced environment.
• Eligible to work in the UK and willing to travel occasionally if needed.
• Office‑based role with some remote working; candidate must have own means of transport.

Desirable Skills (Optional but beneficial)

• Familiarity with CFD tools would be a benefit, but not essential.
• Structural analysis experience with ability to perform structural design and strength calculations using FEA tools and classification society rules.
• Knowledge or experience of composite boat structures.
• Hands‑on practical experience in a boat yard.
• Hand sketching.
