What does a successful Senior/Lead PMO do? You will be the backbone of governance and control for the Vision Next (VN) programme: a large-scale, multi-client platform modernisation running concurrent implementations across multiple geographies. The role owns the programme management framework end-to-end: from PI planning governance and release control through to executive reporting, dependency management, financial oversight, vendor compliance, and risk management. This is a hands-on leadership role embedded directly in the delivery organisation, working alongside engineering pod leads, product owners, and client-facing teams.

What you will do:

  • Be responsible for Programme Governance & Control from design, implementation and continuous improvement the programme governance framework; own the master programme schedule, maintain alignment between PI cadence, release schedule, and client contractual milestones; establish and enforce stage-gate processes for key programme events and maintain a consolidated view of programme scope.
  • Plan & Schedule: lead the end-to-end PI planning cycle; maintain the multi-programme delivery roadmap and manage start dependencies and allocation constraints across concurrent programmes.
  • Be responsible for budget & financial management, including programme budget ownership; cost forecasting; change control; invoice and PO governance financial reporting and ensuring accurate accruals & provisions.
  • Vendor Compliance & Third-Party Management including vendor governance, compliance monitoring, performance oversight, procurement coordination and IR35 & resource compliance.
  • Steering Committee Preparation & Facilitation by meeting calendar ownership, steering committee pack preparation, pre-reads and pre-alignment, minutes and action tracking, escalation pathway.
  • RAID Management - own the programme RAID log; escalate blockers and issues; maintain a structured decision log.
  • Reporting & Stakeholder Management by producing weekly and PI-level programme status reports, developing and maintaining executive dashboards, acting as the single point of truth for programme data.
  • Resource & Capacity Management - support capacity planning across the pod model, work with delivery leads to track utilisation, forecast demand and flag bottlenecks; maintain visibility of AI augmentation uplift assumptions and coordinate resource onboarding for new client programmes.
  • Ways of Working & Continuous Improvement - ensure Champion governance standards and PMO best practice across the delivery organization, support Inspect & Adapt workshops, track and drive closure of improvement actions, mentor and guide junior PMO resource where applicable, identify and implement tooling improvements.

What you will need to have:

  • At least 7+ years in programme or portfolio management, with at least 3 years in a senior PMO or lead governance role.
  • Proven track record on large-scale technology modernisation or platform migration programmes.
  • Strong command of hybrid delivery: SAFe or scaled agile frameworks alongside traditional programme governance and controls.
  • Hands-on experience managing multi-million pound programme budgets, cost forecasting, and financial reporting to executive level.
  • Demonstrable experience managing third-party supplier compliance, contract oversight, and performance governance.
  • Experience in governance facilitation — preparing and facilitating Steering Committee and Programme Board sessions at C-suite level.
  • Be an expert in RAID management, critical path analysis, and multi-workstream scheduling.
  • Strong reporting experience — advanced ability to synthesise complex delivery and financial data into clear executive narratives.
  • Organised under ambiguity, commercially aware, trusted partner, data-driven; continuous improver.

What is nice to have:

  • Experience in financial services technology delivery (issuer processing, payments, or lending platforms).
  • Familiarity with PI Planning and SAFe ceremonies.
  • Exposure to AI-augmented delivery models and capacity planning in hybrid human/AI teams.
  • PMP, MSP, P3O, or SAFe certification (SPC or RTE).
