This is a full-time role starting at 06:00 – 08:00 depending on workload equating to a 50 hour week.

My client is a growing rental supplier to the UK Film industry who specialise in rigging, lifting equipment, drapery, consumables, etc. They are a family firm who have been operating for a quarter of a century.

They seek a reliable, self-motivated individual to work as a Driver (primarily) and warehouse tech (secondary).

Responsibilities:

Driving:

  • Driving the company’s vehicles to deliver and collect equipment to various performance venues and sites around the SE, the UK and nationally.
  • Many deliveries and collections are outside of standard working hours, by nature of the business. Working hours and shift schedules will include the requirement to work outside standard office hours. Often driving schedules will change at short notice or additional deliveries will be requested from site. A flexible and adaptable approach to working hours will be vital.
  • Assisting rigging crew on-site with loading equipment into /out of a venue.
  • Planning routes and departure times, for deliveries. Punctuality is absolutely vital in this deadline-driven industry and you will be required to plan your route and establish departure times and loading scheduling to ensure deliveries are made at scheduled times.
  • Loading and unloading of equipment from vehicles. The role involves an element of manual handling of bulky and heavy technical equipment and goods.
  • Maintain the company vehicles in a clean and presentable condition, internally and externally at all times.
  • Perform regular basic routine maintenance checks on company vehicles. (Fluid levels, tyre pressures, lights etc.)
  • Collecting and returning rental vehicles, vans and trucks from vehicle hire suppliers as required.
  • Ensure that all delivery paperwork is signed by the appropriate person on site and that all paperwork records are correctly returned to the warehouse manager on a daily basis.
  • Ensure all loads are secured and correctly loaded before driving any of the company’s vehicles.
  • Ensure all receipts relating to vehicle fuel, road tolls and running costs are correctly accounted for and presented to your Line Manager.

Warehouse Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the servicing, preparation, cleaning and packaging of the company’s rental equipment, within the company’s warehouse.
  • Operating forklift truck to position items of rental stock shelving and in vehicles.
  • Deal with customers and drivers visiting the company’s premises to collect or return orders and equipment.
  • Checking-in of equipment returned from hire, against paperwork. Log and report any shortages or damages
  • Checking-out of customer orders to ensure that all items are included, delivered, operational and cleanly presented.
  • Assist with the servicing, preparation, cleaning and packaging of the company’s rental equipment, within the company’s warehouse.
  • Maintenance and repair of full range of company’s rental stock.
  • Assist in areas of building maintenance and general upkeep of the facilities as required.

General:

  • Keep all work areas clean, tidy and efficiently organised.
  • As directed, provide support to the other teams within the company, to assist in other aspects of the business’s activity, as required.
  • Keep all work-related information confidential and act in a professional manner at all times, in all work situations.
  • Be aware of and comply with the Company Health and Safety Policy.
  • Ensure that the Company’s policies, rules, procedures and obligations are observed in carrying out the above duties.

Vital Qualities:

  • This role involves dealing with customers of the company. It is vital that you deal courteously with customers and the public at all times and represent the company and its reputation in an impeccable manner.
  • Maintain a good level of personal appearance, dress and cleanliness.
  • A generally cheerful demeanour, engaging personality and sense of humour would be a huge advantage in making a success of this role.

Required:

  • Good communications / interpersonal skills. Fluent speaker of the English language.
  • For vehicle insurance purposes, all applicants must be aged 25 or over.
  • Forklift licence.
  • Full UK Driving Licence, to include category B (cars and vehicles up to 3500kg).
  • No major driving offences / disqualifications / convictions at any time.
  • No at-fault insurance claims within preceding 5 years to declare.
  • Clean driving licence preferred. Maximum of 3 penalty points on licence for minor offences only.
  • Demonstrable experience of driving a range of goods vehicles, including 3500kg long-wheelbase panel vans and flatbed trucks.
  • Wide experience of driving in London / South East England, with good knowledge of best routes / known traffic problem areas etc. Ability to re-route around unanticipated delays and drive under initiative and common sense – not just blindly following a sat-nav.
  • Flexible and adaptable. Able to respond to short-notice changes in working hours and schedules.
  • Basic IT knowledge with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word / Outlook etc.
  • Numerate. Basic maths skills and arithmetic required.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proactive, self-motivated individual capable of working on their own initiative in a constantly changing and pressurised environment and fast developing company.
  • The ability to work as a member of a team and to provide and receive input from other team members is vital.

Advantageous but not essential:

  • Driving licence entitlement for category C1 (goods vehicles 3500kg to 7500kg).
  • Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
  • Driving Licence Categories B+E, C, or CE
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment.
