Pax8 is hiring a Senior Infrastructure Engineer in the UK to strengthen our cloud, networking, telephony and infrastructure capability as we scale the technology marketplace of the future.

This is a brilliant opportunity to become a senior technical voice in a growing Technology Services team, where your expertise will directly influence how our internal platforms, cloud infrastructure, telephony, automation and workplace technology evolve. You’ll work on meaningful, business-critical projects — from Pax8 OS, GitHub enablement and telephony architecture through to networking, cloud platforms, infrastructure resilience and automation.

As Pax8 continues its AI journey, you’ll join at a point where new starters can grow alongside new technology, using smart automation and AI-enabled ways of working to remove manual effort, improve service quality and help our teams move faster.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading complex infrastructure, cloud, networking and telephony work that keeps our systems reliable, secure and scalable.
  • Supporting and improving services across Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, hosted cloud environments, servers and enterprise networking.
  • Helping shape telephony solutions that give Pax8 stronger control, consistency and visibility across call routing, providers, numbers and business tools.
  • Working on Pax8 OS, GitHub adoption and technology projects that connect teams across regions.
  • Driving automation across manual processes using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, PowerShell and AI-enabled approaches.
  • Acting as a senior troubleshooting partner for complex incidents across cloud, infrastructure, telephony, audio, networking and workplace technology.
  • Improving documentation, standards, alerting, reporting and disaster recovery practices so knowledge is shared and services become stronger.
  • Coaching and mentoring Level I, II and III engineers, helping the team grow technical confidence and capability.
  • Partnering with Engineering, Security, Product, Workplace Experience, Vendor and Technology Operations teams to deliver joined-up solutions.

The Impact You’ll Make

You’ll help reduce dependency on individual specialists, raise the technical standard across the team and create more scalable, repeatable ways of working. Your work will improve how Pax8 supports internal teams, partners and business-critical platforms — while helping a newer team establish stronger standards for automation, resilience, documentation and service excellence.

This is a role where you can leave a visible legacy: better systems, clearer knowledge, stronger engineering practices and a more unified technology experience across regions.

What You’ll Bring

  • Extensive experience across cloud platforms, infrastructure, networking, servers and telephony.
  • Proven diagnostic and troubleshooting ability, especially with complex, multi-system issues.
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services, with Google Cloud Platform experience beneficial.
  • Strong understanding of physical and virtual networking, routing, hosted cloud environments, monitoring, alerting, traffic analysis, load balancing, backup and recovery.
  • Demonstrated experience with automation and Infrastructure as Code, using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet or PowerShell.
  • Strong Linux experience, and advanced competency with Terminal/Command Line interfaces.
  • Proven ability to mentor, coach and support engineers across different technical levels.
  • Confidence working with stakeholders across Technology, Security, Product, Workplace Experience and external providers.
  • A clear, thoughtful approach to documentation, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
  • An adaptable working style, with the openness to travel occasionally across UK and wider EMEA offices.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: £45,000 - £65,000 depending on experience.
  • Bonus: Annual performance bonus.
  • Long term Incentive Plan (Stock Options).
  • 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays).
  • Private healthcare covered by Bupa.
  • Dental Plan covered by Bupa.
  • Life Assurance.
  • Income Protection.
  • Royal London Workplace pension scheme – 5% employer contribution.
  • Pax8 Cycle to Work Support Scheme Available.
  • Dedicated time for training and personal development.
  • Unlimited access to LinkedIn Learning.
  • Health & Wellbeing coaching support.
  • Fun and frequent company and team socials.

How to prepare for a job interview at FirstMile Ventures

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If FirstMile Ventures uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
