Yard Controller in Wembley

The Yard Controller for WEFOC will be required to safely and efficiently facilitate the movement of trains associated with WEFOC (Wembley Sidings). The position will also be required to maintain competency in Team Member B activities (Shunting) at Willesden TMD (Willesden Train Maintenance Depot). The WEFOC Yard Controller will also be required to facilitate the shunting trains using a signal panel. When at Willesden Train Maintenance Depot they will also be required to carry out maintenance tasks on trains within their competency and as instructed by the Engineering Team Leader on duty.

Key Responsibilities

• Control movement into and from the sidings to the main line by use of the signal control panel.
• Work to all relevant T&RS engineering, occupational Health & Safety, loss control and quality standards, schedules and practices.
• Act as Designated Person when required.
• Ensure all local procedures are being followed by staff working on the site (ARL or third party).
• Operate a signal panel (training will be provided).
• In the event of signal control failures, carry out the manual release of units for service in line with local procedures.
• Establish clear communication between Network Rail and ARL interfaces.
• Report failures in infrastructure or equipment at Wembley Sidings and ensure safety integrity measures are in place.
• Report defects in the accommodation at Wembley.
• Report near misses and accidents in accordance with local procedure.
• Report trespassing or vandalism via Compass.
• Assist the Fleet Team in raising quality, safety and efficiency targets.

Qualifications and Competencies

• Knowledge of traction and rolling stock systems.
• Experience in train movement.
• Ability to work in a safety critical environment.
• Driving of a road vehicle (desirable not essential).
• Effective communication both written and verbal.
• Basic computer skills including use of Microsoft Word and Outlook.
• Ability to work methodically, plan and organise time effectively.
• Personal Track Safety (Safety Critical).
• Power Plant Proficiency Certification where applicable.
• Shunter competency.
• Willingness to undergo training in other skills such as power plant and road vehicle driving.
• Where training has been given and competency assessed, carry out basic maintenance tasks on units.
• Required rail yard training, including safety and emergency procedures.
