You will help make sure the right train gets to the right place at the right time. Your main job is to control train movement safely around the depot. You will also help with other important tasks that keep the depot running smoothly.
What You’ll Do- Control train movement (shunting)
- Help engineers with train and equipment maintenance
- Drive a forklift (training may be provided)
- Help in the stores (organising and moving items)
- Clean trains underneath
- Check trains are safe to move after work is done
- Make sure trains are ready and in the right order for customers
- Clean trains, buildings, and the yard
- Do small repairs to depot equipment or trains
- Be able to share information and help solve problems
- Keep yourself and others safe while working
- Be open to improving how things are done
- Be okay with working shifts (including nights and weekends)
- Always follow safety rules
- Work well alone and with others
- Pass a safety medical check
- Pass a psychometric test
- Experience of working within an engineering depot is advantageous
- If more than one person is chosen, we will keep a list for future openings (within 6 months)
- You must live within 60 minutes of the depot (by car or public transport)
