Your Mission
As a Relief Operations Supervisor, you will play a key role in keeping our services running smoothly by managing the flow of drivers and vehicles out of the depot, along route, and back in again. You will help ensure delivery is safe, punctual, reliable and cost-effective — all within our operational excellence framework.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting day-to-day operations across the depot, including forward-planning on-the-day service requirements through to end-of-day and future days, including covering absence at short notice.
- In smaller depots, monitoring and proactively managing service punctuality and vehicle availability using agreed systems.
- Supporting drivers by answering queries promptly and overseeing driver reporting.
- Accurately capturing, recording and maintaining drivers' hours, duties and attendance in the DAS GUI system.
- Keeping detailed, accurate records relating to operational standards and performance.
- Analysing information and using systems to drive continuous improvement in service performance.
- Allocating the correct vehicle to each driver and ensuring services depart the depot on time.
- Handling incoming telephone queries and supporting the resolution of customer issues.
- Providing comprehensive handovers and coordinating effectively across shifts.
- Managing depot cash collection in line with company procedures.
- Live-inputting lost/additional mileage to support quick resolution during unexpected events (e.g. breakdowns).
- Ensuring depot equipment is logged, maintained, and restocked — including ticket machines, driver equipment, cash machines and ticket rolls.
- Conducting incident investigations and preparing clear reports with findings and recommendations.
- Working collaboratively with the depot operations and engineering teams to manage on-time performance, vehicle allocation, breakdowns and changeovers.
- Maintaining constructive working relationships with trade union representatives and officials.
About you
- Previous experience in a similar operational or supervisory role.
- Strong numeracy and analytical ability.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- The ability to work to strict deadlines while still delivering great customer service.
- A valid PCV licence (essential).
- The confidence to build positive working relationships with colleagues, team members and wider depot teams.
