North Somercotes CE Primary School are looking for an enthusiastic Apprentice Teaching Assistant to join our reception team. This apprenticeship is one year and six months long, offering a starting wage of £12,896 for the first year with potential increases based on age.

Wage and Working Hours

  • Wage: £12,896 for the first year.
  • The role requires 31 hours per week during the 5‑day school week, Monday to Friday, with 44.6 working weeks pro‑rata over a 52‑week period.

Training

The apprenticeship includes workplace training and specialist sessions delivered by EAST LINDSEY INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CENTRE. You will study to gain professional knowledge and skills through the Level 3 Teaching Assistant standard. Functional Skills maths and English may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Class Teacher in creating a warm, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Help with day‑to‑day classroom activities and support children’s early development in literacy and numeracy.
  • Assist with setting up learning areas and resources.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, promote independence, and support the well‑being and progress of all pupils.
  • Apply teaching strategies and guidance for all learners.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well‑being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up‑to‑date technology safely and encourage safe use by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners, for example scaffolding and open questioning.
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.
