Job Description
Drive commercial excellence and deliver major water sector projects as a Senior Quantity Surveyor in a collaborative, high-performing team.
Overview
We are supporting our client in strengthening their Commercial team with a Senior Quantity Surveyor. The successful candidate will report directly to the Managing Quantity Surveyor and will play a key role in providing commercial oversight across multiple project work packages.
The role sits within an integrated delivery team and will be accountable for:
- Commercial and cost management of projects.
- Acting as the commercial conscience of the team, supporting delivery management and site teams.
- Ensuring operations are carried out efficiently, controlling costs, maximizing value, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
- Maintaining compliance with all governance procedures and frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and monitor robust cost plans aligned to project scope.
- Ensure accurate reporting in line with the commercial calendar and cost breakdown structures (CBS).
- Support estimating to provide robust cost estimates, risk allowances, and data transfer to procurement systems.
- Prepare, manage, and administer subcontracts in accordance with contract requirements.
- Work closely with the Procurement team to develop and monitor procurement strategy.
- Attend site regularly to provide guidance, commercial challenge, and escalation where necessary.
- Monitor actual costs against baseline, value of work done, and outturn, reporting as required.
- Ensure all project documentation, GRNs, and contractual records are accurate and up to date.
- Support risk mitigation, contract administration, change management, and cost assurance audits.
- Present, influence, and negotiate with stakeholders and supply chain partners.
- Foster a collaborative team culture, including mentoring and performance management where applicable.
Essential Requirements:
- Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, able to influence and negotiate across teams and stakeholders.
- Proven track record of delivering large-scale projects to programme, budget, and quality standards.
- Experience managing costs through a complex Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS).
- NEC contract experience.
- Knowledge of water/wastewater processes.
- Driving licence and relevant CSCS card.
- Ability to organise workload, plan proactively, and support/empower team members.
Desirable:
- Degree in engineering, management, or cost discipline.
- Chartered surveyor status or working towards it.
