Lead critical CE&I design delivery on high-impact nuclear infrastructure programmes shaping the future of UK energy. Our Client has a requirement for a CE&I Responsible Engineer, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Manchester / Warrington / Cumbria.

Role Purpose:

  • Manage and lead CE&I design and engineering activities within a nuclear-licensed environment
  • Ensure all engineering deliverables are safe, compliant, and delivered on time and within budget
  • Provide technical authority and governance across CE&I discipline activities
  • Oversee internal and external design teams to ensure quality and consistency
  • Ensure engineering processes, systems, and digital workflows are followed to provide stakeholder assurance
  • Support full lifecycle delivery including design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover

Job Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage CE&I design delivery across the programme
  • Oversee internal teams and external consultants/subcontractors delivering design work
  • Ensure design outputs meet schedule, budget, and technical compliance requirements
  • Verify designs meet safety, sustainability, and constructability standards
  • Implement and maintain engineering management systems and digital workflows
  • Provide technical assurance and governance to stakeholders
  • Review, check, and approve CE&I engineering deliverables
  • Support project delivery across all lifecycle phases (design through to commissioning and handover)
  • Identify, assess, and manage engineering risks in line with HSE requirements
  • Work across infrastructure systems including: Steam (LP & HP), Water (raw, domestic, demineralised, treated), Compressed air, Bulk chemical systems, Sewage treatment
  • Support scopes involving: Distribution systems and associated infrastructure, Treatment and processing facilities, Storage and handling systems, Utility generation and supply systems, Offloading and transfer facilities

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering) (Apprenticeships may also be considered)
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or working towards professional accreditation

Essential:

  • 15+ years' experience within the nuclear industry
  • Recognised authority in CE&I design
  • Strong experience in utility infrastructure design
  • Proven technical leadership and ability to review complex engineering deliverables
  • Experience delivering strategic engineering objectives and managing change
  • Extensive knowledge of UK legislation, standards, and regulatory frameworks
  • Strong understanding of risk identification, quantification, and management
  • In-depth understanding of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements

Desirable:

  • Experience establishing or operating EDMS and design workflow systems
  • Broader engineering leadership experience (information management, quality, assurance)
  • Experience across multiple infrastructure sectors
  • Experience developing and implementing procurement and contract strategies
