Lead the integration of critical MEP systems on one of the UK's most complex infrastructure programmes. Our Client has a requirement for a Senior Project Engineer, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Birmingham/Hybrid (Inside IR35).

Role Purpose:

  • Act as the client-side engineering lead overseeing contractor design and delivery for MEP/building services.
  • Ensure effective integration, coordination, and assurance of building services systems across multiple assets.
  • Provide technical oversight to support design development, system integration, testing, and certification.
  • Verify contractor self-assurance processes and ensure alignment with project requirements and standards.
  • Support delivery across tunnel portals, shafts, and pumping station assets within a major infrastructure programme.

Job Role Responsibilities:

  • Oversee contractor design assurance for MEP/building services systems.
  • Review and verify contractor self-assurance and compliance processes.
  • Ensure coordination and integration of key systems, including:
    • Monitor contractor activity during design development, ensuring alignment to design intent.
    • Mechanical systems.
    • Electrical systems.
    • HVAC.
    • Lighting.
    • Fire systems.
    • Power infrastructure.
  • Support system integration, testing, and certification across multiple project assets.
  • Ensure designs meet programme requirements, standards, and delivery expectations.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams and MEP specialists to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Provide high-level technical oversight without direct responsibility for detailed design.

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

  • Strong background in MEP / Building Services engineering.
  • Experience delivering within major infrastructure or construction projects.
  • Proven track record in design assurance and contractor oversight roles.
  • Understanding of multi-disciplinary system integration.
  • Experience working client-side, within consultancy, or at contractor interface level.
  • Ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders and delivery partners.

Desirable:

  • Experience within rail, tunnelling, or large-scale infrastructure programmes.
  • Knowledge of commissioning, assurance, and certification processes.
  • Experience working within complex, high-value programme environments.
