Drive the future of water infrastructure – lead design excellence on major programmes. Our Client has a requirement for a Technical Design Manager, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Falmer (hybrid working with site travel).

Role Purpose:

  • Lead technical design governance across water infrastructure projects
  • Ensure robust engineering solutions from concept through to delivery
  • Oversee design development, ensuring quality, compliance, and efficiency
  • Support the delivery of cost-effective, sustainable engineering solutions

Job Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assurance across Design Managers and discipline engineers
  • Lead solution development from initial need through optioneering and detailed design
  • Ensure designs are deliverable, cost-effective, and aligned to programme requirements
  • Identify and manage technical risks across the design lifecycle
  • Collaborate with clients, construction teams, and supply chain partners
  • Drive buildability and efficiency within design outputs
  • Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and internal governance processes
  • Promote innovation and continuous improvement in engineering delivery

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

  • Engineering background with degree qualification (or equivalent)
  • Strong experience in water / wastewater infrastructure projects
  • Background working in design-build or contractor environments
  • Proven experience at Design Manager / Engineering Manager / Technical Lead level
  • Strong understanding of design governance and technical delivery
  • Commercial awareness with experience reviewing technical documentation
  • Ability to manage scope changes and stakeholder expectations

Desirable:

  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
  • Experience working in joint venture environments
  • Experience with offsite or modular design solutions
