Who are we? First Subsea, based in Lancaster and part of the First Tech Group, has gone through a major transition in the last five years, transitioning from oil and gas projects to offshore renewables projects where we supply a range of bespoke and patented products, such as lifting and recovery tools, and cable protection systems. All our products are designed, assembled and tested in-house, and we have recently opened a dedicated manufacturing & production facility for our cable protection systems.

As demand has grown for the products and services provided by First Subsea, the need for talented people has also grown in parallel.

The Role? Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Analysis Engineer on a full time permanent basis, based in Lancaster. The Analysis Engineer will be responsible for undertaking engineering analysis and developing technical solutions for subsea products and systems, with a particular focus on cable protection systems (CPS) and subsea cable applications. The role is primarily aimed at an engineer with strong experience in OrcaFlex and offshore/subsea analysis, who can develop, run and interpret numerical models to support product design, project delivery, qualification and technical decision-making.

A key part of the role will also be working closely with the Sales team to provide technical input to bids and proposals. This will include developing analysis scopes, assessing technical requirements, supporting engineering estimates and providing clear technical justification for proposed solutions. The successful candidate will work across Design, Sales and Project teams, helping to convert customer requirements into technically sound, commercially viable solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake engineering analysis of subsea cables, Cable Protection Systems (CPS) and associated equipment, primarily using OrcaFlex.
  • Lead Engineer Responsibilities – responsible for overseeing the technical delivery of projects, coordinating engineering activities and ensuring technical requirements are met.
  • Work closely with Sales team to support bids and proposals, including reviewing customer requirements, defining analysis scopes, developing technical approaches, identifying assumptions and exclusions, and providing engineering input to cost and programme estimates.
  • Undertake preliminary analysis and feasibility assessments to support bid development and customer discussions, where required.
  • Develop, maintain and validate numerical models to assess cable and CPS behaviour during installation and operation.
  • Carry out sensitivity studies and engineering assessments to understand the impact of key design, installation and environmental parameters.
  • Interpret analysis results and translate them into practical engineering solutions, recommendations and design improvements.
  • Provide technical input to the design, development, qualification and verification of First Subsea products and CPS solutions.
  • Provide technical support during customer meetings, tender clarifications and proposal development clearly communicating technical capability, risks and limitations.
  • Ensure technical commitments made during the bid process are achievable and support an effective handover from Sales into project delivery.
  • Produce clear, accurate and technically robust analysis reports, calculations, technical proposals and supporting documentation.
  • Develop and improve standard OrcaFlex models, analysis methodologies, tools and processes to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Work collaboratively with Design, Project Engineering, Sales, Manufacturing, Testing and other functions to deliver technically sound and commercially viable solutions.
  • Contribute to the development of First Subsea's analytical capability and provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing within the wider engineering team.

Your Qualifications & Experience:

  • MSC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in analysis & design engineering.
  • Chartership preferred.

You Are:

  • Analytical & Methodical with the ability to break down complex engineering problems, and assess different solutions logically.
  • Strong Attention to Detail - careful and thorough when reviewing calculations, models, assumptions, drawings and technical information.
  • Problem Solving Mindset - able to investigate issues, identify root causes and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Engineering Judgement - able to interpret analysis results in the context of real world engineering applications rather than relying solely on theoretical outputs.
  • Collaborative – works effectively with Design Engineers and other functions, sharing knowledge and contributing constructively to design discussions.
  • Clear communicator – able to explain technical analysis, assumptions, results and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Organised and able to prioritise – manages multiple analysis activities and deadlines effectively while maintaining quality and accuracy.
  • Quality focused – takes ownership of the accuracy and integrity of their work and understands the importance of robust checking and verification.
  • Willingness to learn – keeps developing technical knowledge and is receptive to feedback, new methods and emerging technologies.
  • Accountable – takes ownership of assigned work and follows through on actions, commitments and agreed deadlines.
  • Safety conscious – understands the importance of robust engineering analysis in managing design, operational and product risks.
