The studio provides recording, mixing, and mastering services tailored to diverse musical styles and audio projects. In addition to audio production, First Studios supports clients with full-scale production and professional video services. This is a full-time, on-site Freelance Audio Engineer role based in Greater London. The Audio Engineer will handle day-to-day studio operations, including setting up and operating microphones, audio interfaces, and related equipment for recording sessions. Responsibilities include:
- Engineering and monitoring sessions
- Gain staging
- Ensuring optimal sound quality
- Applying processing such as EQ, compression, and effects as needed
- Sound design, editing, and mixing to deliver polished final assets for music, voiceover, and video projects
- Collaborating closely with artists, producers, and video teams
- Maintaining session documentation and backups
- Supporting basic studio maintenance, routing, and troubleshooting of audio and AV systems
Qualifications
- Strong audio engineering skills, including recording, editing, mixing, and basic mastering
- Proficiency with microphones and acoustics, including selection, placement, room treatment awareness, and signal flow
- Experience with sound design for music, post-production, or multimedia projects
- Working knowledge of audio visual (AV) systems, including routing, monitoring, and integration with video workflows
- Advanced use of DAWs (e.g., Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live) and common plug-ins and outboard gear
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills, with the ability to support artists of varying experience levels
- Strong organizational skills, including file management, session labeling, and backup routines
- Prior studio or live sound experience in a professional environment; relevant audio or music technology education is an advantage
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, based on session schedules
