Overview
Cycle Instructor (Van Driver). Are you passionate about cycling and eager to make a positive impact in your community? We are looking for a motivated and reliable Bikeability Instructor to join our team, delivering engaging cycle training sessions that help children and young people build confidence and essential road safety skills. This is a hands-on, active role where every day brings something different, and youβll play a key part in encouraging safe, active travel across our region. No prior instructing experience is required, as the Bikeability cycle training qualification will be provided.

The Position
The ideal candidate will be passionate about promoting safe, enjoyable cycling and able to engage learners of all abilities with a positive, supportive approach. This role requires travelling between sites, so you must be comfortable driving a van to and from training sessions, ensuring all bicycles and equipment are transported safely. Reliability, good communication skills, and a commitment to helping others develop essential life skills are key. This is a flexible casual role and sessions are delivered from 8am β 3pm.
Successful candidates will be provided with the cycle instructor training qualification β 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training (T & Cs apply).
Responsibilities
- Assist with the delivery of National Standard Cycle training as organised by First Step Sports.
- Load equipment and drive to sessions.
- Complete course paperwork including registers, assessments, course reports and results.
- Complete risk assessments of the trainees, cycles, and the training area (including on-road locations).
- Accountable for the safety and welfare of colleagues and trainees.
- Ensure training is delivered in line with First Step Sportsβ health and safety policy with an awareness of accident and incident reporting procedures.
- Enable trainees to cycle safely, promoting cycling as a means of transport and a fun, healthy activity.
- Dress professionally β In line with the First Step Sports Uniform.
Knowledge and Experience Requirements
- Regular and competent cyclist.
- Understanding and awareness of road and traffic environments.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all trainees including children, parents and schools.
- Be decisive, maintain good discipline, inspire confidence and give encouragement.
- First Aid and Child Protection Training (Training will be provided for candidates without these qualifications β T & Cs apply β Mandatory requirement).
- Understand basic cycle maintenance (Desirable).
- Please note: A Driving License and your own transport are essential for this position. Drivers must be 21 or over and have 2 years driving experience.
