About the role

This position reports to the Head of Technology Strategy & Planning and works across technology and business functions to oversee the portfolio of technology change initiatives.

The Technology Portfolio Manager ensures that all technology projects and programs are identified, prioritized and delivered in alignment with business strategy and the company’s technology roadmap.

The role exists to manage the end-to-end technology planning process, maintain the multi‑year technology plan, and provide governance over technology investments and supplier engagements within the organisation.

This key role is pivotal in ensuring technology investments deliver measurable business value, support regulatory compliance and enable innovation for our global corporate client base.

Additionally, this role will actively manage delivery projects and backlogs where required.

  • Your experience
  • Proven track record of IT portfolio or program management within a technology organisation or similar business environment, with at least 5 years of experience managing IT projects or portfolios.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and budgeting for technology initiatives, including developing multi-year plans and managing investment budgets.
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience in benefits realisation and value tracking.
  • Strong background in project management methodologies (e. g.

Agile, Waterfall) and governance, with experience leading or overseeing multiple concurrent projects through their life cycles.

  • Familiarity with IT demand management and the ability to assess and prioritise project proposals based on strategic fit, ROI, and resource availability.
  • Experience in stakeholder management, working with senior business and technology leaders to align on priorities, report progress, and resolve conflicts in scope or resource needs.
  • Hands‑on involvement in vendor management and contract negotiations, preferably managing relationships with major technology vendors or service providers.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills, with an ability to analyse portfolio data and derive insights (e. g. risk profiles, performance metrics) to guide decision‑making.
  • Proven ability to drive process improvements and implement portfolio management tools or frameworks, ensuring transparency and accountability across an IT organisation.
  • Experience managing technology and data portfolios in a regulated, global asset management environment is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of IT governance and portfolio management tools (such as PPM software, project tracking systems) and techniques for tracking project performance and interdependencies.
  • Competence in financial analysis related to technology and data projects, including cost–benefit analysis and value realisation tracking for technology investments.
  • Familiarity with technology strategy and architecture principles, allowing effective communication with architects and technical leads about how projects align with target architecture.
  • Understanding of Agile delivery environments and Dev Ops culture, and how incremental delivery and continuous improvement can be managed within a broader portfolio.
  • Proficiency with risk management practices in project/portfolio contexts, identifying and mitigating delivery, technology, or supplier risks.
  • Advanced skills in data analysis and Excel (or other analytics tools) to manipulate project data, and in presentation/reporting to create clear portfolio updates for executives.
  • Oversee technology and data‑driven change initiatives, ensuring alignment with the firm’s technology strategy, governance standards and analytics objectives.
  • Manage the portfolio of technology change initiatives (projects and programmes) across the enterprise, ensuring they collectively support business objectives.
  • Evaluate, select and prioritise incoming technology demand requests based on strategic alignment and value, maintaining a clear overview of the change backlog and prioritisation in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Lead the integration of technology change initiatives, ensuring cohesive delivery and alignment with the firm’s data governance framework.
  • Own and execute the technology planning process, developing and updating the multi-year (e. g. 3-year) technology plan/roadmap that aligns with business strategy and budget constraints.
  • Manage the technology change budget, tracking and reporting on investment spend and benefits across the portfolio, and ensure initiatives are delivered within budget and resource capacity.
  • Provide delivery oversight for non‑BAU work by monitoring project execution (led by product and scrum teams) and intervening or escalating as needed to address risks, delays or issues in project delivery.
  • Act as delivery lead (project manager / scrum master) where required for change initiatives; shaping, planning and coordinating the appropriate resources, sequencing and tracking the required delivery activities.
  • Implement and enforce portfolio governance standards and processes, including stage‑gating, resource allocation and benefits tracking, to improve execution consistency and transparency.
  • Ensure robust governance and risk management across all portfolio activities, proactively identifying and mitigating delivery, technology and supplier risks.
  • Lead regular portfolio review meetings with senior technology and business leaders to communicate status, risks and performance of ongoing initiatives, ensuring clarity on portfolio health and outcomes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with strategic technology and data suppliers, overseeing key vendor engagements and contract management to ensure vendor performance supports portfolio delivery.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for enterprise demand management, coordinating with other technology roles in capturing business needs and shaping them into well‑scoped project proposals.
  • Identify opportunities to optimise the project portfolio, such as synergies between initiatives or areas to de‑prioritise, and recommend adjustments to maximise value delivery and strategic alignment.
  • Champion continuous improvement in portfolio and change management practices, adopting tools or methodologies (e. g.

Agile portfolio management, PMO best practices) to increase efficiency and adaptability of the technology strategy & planning function.
