About the role
Reporting to the Senior Manager - Investment Tax, the Manager Investment Tax provides valuable support within the investment tax function as well as other business lines within First Sentier Group (e.g. Investment Teams, Product, Operations).
The role is part of a small team of two that covers a broad spectrum of responsibilities.
About you
Your experience
- Relevant accounting qualifications from an appropriate industry body with a taxation specialty
- Strong tax background and experience with international (non UK) tax issues – emerging markets experience highly regarded
- Experience of product and/or investment tax issues in a financial services environment
- Big 4 background preferred
- Strong relationship building and stakeholder management skills
- Motivated self-starter
- Excellent written and oral communication and influencing skills
- Manage relationships effectively with senior internal and external stakeholders (up to Board level)
- Ability to meet tight deadlines
- Ability to assimilate, analyse and present complex taxation issues to audiences with a non-tax background
- Demonstrated ability of applying risk based approaches to manage priorities and workflows
- Effective team player, interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Support the Investment Tax function at First Sentier Group with primary responsibilities to:
- Ensure the provision of effective tax advisory support across the FSG pooled fund range
- Ensure effective controls and processes are in place to identify and manage all applicable tax risks and obligations in relation to the funds and investment universe
- Provide tax impact understanding for fund investments and distributions in new and existing territories
- Maintain a tax compliance calendar of activities and workflow – managing tax claims and maximising recoveries for funds where appropriate
- Understand fund ranges and investment universe to identify tax issues and opportunities to enhance post-tax returns
- Manage relationships with external parties and outsourced service arrangements to ensure high-quality, cost-effective work
- Stay up to date with UK and overseas taxation changes, rulings and regulation affecting the fund range
- Identify and manage tax risks and facilitate effective support on tax issues
- Provide tax support to Product and Operations teams on new fund propositions, rationalisations and mergers, coordinating external advisors as necessary
- Collaborate with Product to update fund documentation for relevant tax disclosures
- Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across functions and business lines
- Prepare technical tax papers and updates for internal Committees and Boards
- Review and develop the tax strategy and risk framework for the product range
