The Raw Food Ingredient Buyer will be responsible for inventory management and purchasing of raw materials for their designated manufacturing facility.
This role is 100% onsite at the company\’s facility. Candidates must have experience as a Food Manufacturing Buyer to be considered.
The candidate should have excellent planning, organizational, and math skills, proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, and experience negotiating material contracts. Knowledge of food commodity buying is a plus. Strong problem-solving and business decision-making skills are required. Effective communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with suppliers and internal teams are essential. Mentoring and coaching direct reports is also important. An interest or experience in food-related areas is advantageous.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Replenish raw materials, monitor lead times, storage, and shelf life.
- Attend vendor plant audits with QA managers.
- Manage raw material pricing and freight costs.
- Identify cost savings through vendor negotiations and alternative suppliers.
- Review exception reports and expedite materials as needed.
- Coordinate with Quality for material issues, returns, and reimbursements.
- Assist R&D in procuring new ingredients.
- Handle crisis management and multi-tasking for raw material issues.
- Serve as a key contact for plant personnel, available 24/7 for raw material issues.
- Transfer raw materials between plants as formulas shift.
- Manage truckloads with Logistics.
- Coordinate weekly backhauls with packaging and Ryder.
- Resolve invoice discrepancies with accounting.
- Cover other plants when necessary.
- Submit weekly variance reports and manage inventory reports.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor\’s degree or 3-5 years of related experience, or equivalent.
