A well-established stockist and distributor of electrical components is seeking a Business Development Manager (BDM) you will play a pivotal role in fostering strong customer connections and staying attuned to their evolving needs. As a Business development Manager you will be handling incoming enquiries by preparing competitive quotes and work closely with clients to secure orders that are both profitable and practical. When needed, they also support the processing of sales orders and assist with post-sale matters, including customer feedback and issue resolution.
Beyond managing designated Key Accounts, the BDM is responsible for addressing Requests for Quotation (RFQs) from “Gainshare” clients assigned to their team.
Business Development Manager responsibilities:
- Engage with customer requests for pricing received through phone calls, emails, or the company website. Provide tailored and timely quotations that align with customer needs and business objectives.
- Actively pursue quoted opportunities, negotiating effectively to convert them into confirmed sales under optimal commercial conditions.
- Ensure a high standard of customer care after the sale by promptly addressing enquiries and resolving any issues to the mutual satisfaction
- Identify potential within existing accounts for further development. Share insights with the sales team to encourage collaborative efforts in expanding customer relationships.
- Take ownership of assigned Key Accounts, fostering strong, ongoing relationships through regular communication. Develop a deep understanding of each customer’s business landscape, including their market position, internal structure, and strategic goals. Maintain contact through in-person visits or video meetings at appropriate intervals.
- Oversee major quotation opportunities by documenting key interactions, planning next steps, and reporting progress.
- Handle product enquiries to suppliers in response to customer RFQs, record responses in the IQ system, and coordinate with the Procurement team to ensure smooth order fulfilment.
Skills & experience required:
- Experience in Sales, Business development or Account management in Electronics, aviation or medical industry.
- Can build strong relationships with others (customers and suppliers) while retaining appropriate independence.
- Has self-confidence and is self-motivated towards achieving personal and team goals
- Is persuasive, can identify the customers real and underlying needs and respond to meet them.
- Is a good listener and has an enquiring mind
- Has good knowledge of the features and benefits of products and can articulate them verbally and in writing
- Practices good time management and judgement in assessing and responding to team priorities
- Can operate and gain information from the company ICT system and all relevant supplier web sites.
- Can create and manipulate documents and spreadsheets
- Understands the markets in which we operate and the positions of the various major players in those markets including customers, suppliers and competitors.
