Our top water client is looking for a Service Engineer to work on a permanent basis between the Birmingham and Bristol area. The role involves hands-on servicing and repair of water treatment equipment, undertaking scheduled contract service visits, and one-off planned service visits outside of contract. Emergency call-out activity may occasionally be required outside normal working hours.

Job Role Responsibilities:

  • Installation, commissioning, servicing, calibration, fault finding and repair or replacement of components and equipment on all jobs and specialist projects.
  • Routine maintenance of equipment and systems included in the periodic service contracts efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Use initiative to resolve technical and application problems on site with minimum disruption to the client.
  • Develop skills and knowledge beyond basic trade to service and repair equipment as directed by the Service Manager.
  • Gain a working knowledge of the equipment manufactured, supplied and supported by the company, including some third-party equipment.
  • Maintain good knowledge of administrative procedures associated with the job and comply with company policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Produce accurate and informative service reports on the completion of each job.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner, in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Requisition spares and replacement parts from the office/stores and maintain stock in accordance with Company procedures.
  • Acquire a working knowledge in the use of specialist tools and test equipment relating to the job.
  • Actively promote the Company’s products and services, feeding back sales leads to the office.
  • Maintain and project a high-quality Company image at all times.
  • Assist with the formal on-site training of Trainees where appropriate.
  • Provide technical expertise in resolving site problems as required.
  • Attend training courses as directed by the Service Manager.
  • Be available to work outside normal working hours, including weekends, and participate in the Company’s out of hours emergency work.
  • Be prepared to take on short-term assignments anywhere in the UK with reasonable notice.
  • Contribute to achieving Company strategies, commitments and objectives, and any personal objectives assigned.
  • Be responsible for own health and safety and that of others affected through actions or omissions.
  • Comply with Health, Safety, Environmental, Quality, Security and Site policies, rules and instructions.
  • Report to management all accidents, incidents, near misses or malpractice, and assist with investigations and corrective actions.
  • Be responsible for the allocated Company vehicle, ensuring it is roadworthy and maintained according to statutory regulations and Company requirements.
  • Carry out any other duties within the scope and purpose of this role as reasonably requested by your line manager.

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification – Level 3 or higher.
  • Plant maintenance/fault finding experience.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Electro-mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • ONC or HNC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or similar.
  • 18th Edition Qualified.
  • Experience with water purification equipment and systems.
  • Previous relative experience as a mobile service engineer.

Key Requirements:

  • Post holder must hold a full valid Driving licence for use in the UK.
  • Must be able to travel within the region with occasional overnight stays as required.
  • Once fully competent and inducted, the post holder will be included in an on-call rota which may include occasional out of hours, weekend working and emergency call-outs.

Holiday allowance: 26 days plus.
