Role: Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer
Location: Manchester
Employment Type: Contract (Outside IR35) Or Staff
Contract Duration: 12 Months intiailly
Hours: 40 hours per week
Purpose:
To deliver high-quality geotechnical and civil engineering design solutions for projects within the water and rail industries, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed geotechnical and civil engineering design calculations and drawings.
- Ensure design outputs meet safety, quality, and industry standards.
- Prepare site investigation briefs, technical reports, and project specifications.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers, graduates, and CAD technicians.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant technical, professional, and internal standards.
- Implement and document changes to design packages effectively.
- Contribute to and lead formal design reviews, including IDC/KM7 meetings and presentations.
- Accurately estimate time and resources required for design activities.
- Work within structured project management and quality assurance processes.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in geotechnical and/or civil engineering design.
- Strong geotechnical background with the ability to prepare GI specifications, interpret site investigation data, and produce interpretive and design reports.
- Degree or HND in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Proficient in IT applications relevant to engineering design.
- Registered with a relevant professional engineering body and actively working towards chartership.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Chartered Engineer status.
- Prior experience in the water and/or rail sectors.
- Experience working within regulated infrastructure environments (e.g., utilities, highways, nuclear, oil & gas).
- Familiarity with construction methods, ground investigation techniques, and material selection.
- Knowledge of engineering drawing standards and practices.
- Demonstrated expertise in both geotechnical and civil engineering disciplines.
