We are currently seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to join a major LNG / gas processing FEED project based in Leatherhead. This is a long-term, office-based contract role, offering the chance to work within a multi-disciplinary engineering team on a high-profile energy project that will play a key role in the global energy transition. The position is inside IR35 and requires engagement via PAYE only. The successful candidate must be able to attend the Leatherhead office 5 days per week (non-negotiable).
Role Overview
This is a senior technical leadership role where you will be responsible for the end-to-end electrical design and delivery of complex LNG / gas processing facilities during the FEED phase. You will provide guidance and oversight across all electrical engineering activities, ensuring designs are technically robust, compliant with industry standards, and delivered to the highest quality. You will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams, including process, mechanical, and instrumentation engineers, and have the opportunity to influence design decisions at the earliest stages of a major project. This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy high-impact engineering work, taking ownership of complex technical challenges, and mentoring junior engineers in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage electrical engineering activities throughout FEED and early EPC phases
- Design and review electrical systems up to 132kV, including:
- High-voltage distribution networks
- Overhead transmission lines
- Reactive power compensation systems
Candidate Requirements
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Typically 12+ years’ experience in electrical engineering within LNG, gas processing, or large-scale energy projects
- Extensive experience in conceptual design, pre-FEED, FEED, and early EPC stages
- Proven track record designing electrical systems up to 132kV, including HV distribution, reactive power, and grid interface
- Experience interfacing with utilities and understanding protection philosophies
- Strong knowledge of international codes, standards, and grid requirements
- Previous Middle East or Aramco project experience is desirable but not essential
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment
