Lead Process Engineer – Clean Water Project (Peterborough)
Lead the process engineering design for clean water pumping stations, dosing systems and associated control and SCADA integration, ensuring robust hydraulic and process design solutions are delivered from concept through to commissioning support.
Role Purpose
The Lead Process Engineer will collaborate with the project design team to develop and deliver optimised process engineering solutions for clean water infrastructure projects. The role will ensure compliance with engineering standards, promote process safety, and support the delivery of efficient, reliable, and sustainable water treatment and pumping systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead process design for clean water pumping stations, dosing systems, and control systems.
- Deliver hydraulic calculations, pump sizing, control valve selection, capacity assessments and water quality evaluations.
- Develop process control philosophies and support SCADA integration.
- Embed process safety within all designs, including participation in HAZOP, LOPA and DSEAR studies.
- Produce technical documentation including datasheets, specifications and calculations.
- Undertake technical bid evaluations for third‑party process equipment.
- Support commissioning and ensure design intent is maintained through delivery.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including civil, mechanical, electrical and control engineers.
- Ensure compliance with project standards, specifications and CDM regulations.
- Drive technical quality, consistency and timely delivery of all process engineering outputs.
- Identify and support opportunities for innovation and optimisation within designs.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Degree qualified in Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Water Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong experience in process engineering within the water industry.
- Proven experience in clean water treatment and/or water infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic design, pumping systems and process control.
- Experience producing process calculations, specifications and technical documentation.
- Understanding of process safety including HAZOP, LOPA and DSEAR.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Desirable
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership.
- Membership of a professional body (CIWEM, IChemE, IMechE, IET).
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Experience with SCADA systems and control integration.
- Familiarity with clean water standards and design processes.
- Strong IT and engineering software capability.
