We are seeking a Maintenance Engineer – Offshore Cranes and Lifting Appliances to join us on a 6-month contract basis. This Outside IR35 opportunity is ideal for a Limited Company or experienced contractor with a background in offshore maintenance engineering and a strong technical understanding of lifting appliances and cranes in the energy industry. This role is based in Aberdeen, UK, and offers a rewarding opportunity to provide specialist, independent consultancy services to support operational excellence on client-designated offshore assets.

Scope of Services

As a Maintenance Engineering Consultant, you will deliver independent, specialist services aimed at maintaining the integrity, safety, compliance, and performance of offshore cranes and lifting appliances. You will act as a technical authority and operate independently of Petrofac’s management or direct supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise on inspection and certification strategies in line with applicable legislation and client standards.
  • Engage with third-party vendors and inspection bodies as an independent engineering expert.
  • Participate in HAZOP/HAZID reviews, offshore readiness planning, and risk assessments.
  • Review inspection reports, maintenance records, and technical submissions from subcontractors.
  • Attend planning meetings, conduct offshore surveys, and witness functional testing.
  • Provide technical input for vendor evaluations and maintenance strategies.

Key Deliverables

The Consultant will be expected to produce and contribute to the following (as per call-off project scope and timeline):

  • Technical workpacks and inspection documentation to ensure compliance.
  • Maintenance planning materials (e.g., job cards, CTRs, campaign schedules).
  • Procurement documents and technical specs for lifting equipment and spare parts.
  • Asset condition assessments, spares lists, and updates to asset registers.
  • Site survey and test witness reports.
  • Change control records and project cost/progress tracking reports.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience in offshore crane and lifting appliance engineering.
  • Strong understanding of offshore safety and maintenance regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as an independent consultant or within a Limited Company framework.
  • Relevant engineering degree or equivalent qualifications (preferred).
  • Valid offshore certifications (e.g., BOSIET, MIST) are advantageous.
