Our client has a requirement for a Senior Estimating Manager, who will be required to work on a contract basis in London or Birmingham. The Senior Estimating Manager will lead a small estimating team within a major rail project, supporting the development and assurance of contractor estimates and producing high-level and first-principle cost estimates. The role requires adaptability across multiple work packages and disciplines, with a strong drive to learn and develop new skills.
Job Role Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a small estimating team on a major rail project.
- Support and lead assurance of contractor estimates.
- Produce order-of-magnitude costs and first-principle estimates at later project stages.
- Work across multiple work packages and disciplines as required.
- Complete full take-offs independently using UK methods of measurement (RMM1, CESMM4) and estimating software.
- Apply comprehensive knowledge of indirect costs and fees to complete estimates.
- Engage with stakeholders, including engineers, clients, and authorities, to gather information and validate estimates.
- Review outputs of junior estimators and provide guidance and mentorship.
- Prepare basis-of-estimate reports for director review prior to submission.
- Benchmark estimates against market data to provide evidence to clients.
- Travel to London and/or Birmingham up to 3 days per week.
Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications
- Extensive experience in MEP estimating.
- Strong knowledge of estimating techniques, deep-dive analysis, parametric modelling, and data validation.
- Experience across Heavy Civils, Rail, and Major Projects.
- Advanced understanding of UK measurement methods (RMM1, CESMM4) and proficiency with estimating software.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to produce accurate, high-quality estimates and reports independently.
