We are seeking an experienced Plant Operator to support commissioning activities on the United Utilities framework in Oswestry. This role suits candidates with strong wastewater treatment operational experience and backgrounds similar to previously placed operators (e.g., skilled process/plant operators familiar with UU sites and commissioning environments).

The Plant Operator will play a key role in monitoring, adjusting, and supporting the safe and effective operation of the new plant during commissioning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct daily process monitoring of the new treatment plant.
  • Track and record operating parameters, including:
  • MLSS
  • SSVI
  • Final effluent quality
  • Sludge thickener performance
  • Chemical usage
  • Perform daily equipment checks, including:
    • Oxidation ditch systems (inducers, blowers, instruments, ferric, caustic)
    • Sludge thickeners
    • Associated plant and instrumentation
  • Monitor analysers and carry out instrument recalibration and reagent management.
  • Adjust process parameters as needed to maintain performance.
  • Produce accurate daily logs and operational documentation.
  • Report to the Process Commissioning Engineer within the Advance Plus team.
  • Work collaboratively with:
    • United Utilities personnel
    • Suppliers
    • Advance Plus process team
  • Attend regular progress and performance meetings with UU.
  • Order chemicals and consumables (ferric, caustic, poly, reagents, cuvettes).
  • Receive and manage chemical deliveries on site.
  • Support the commissioning team during shutdowns, isolations, and access activities.
  • Candidate Requirements
    • Proven experience as a Plant Operator in the water/wastewater treatment sector.
    • Experience on UU frameworks or similar environments is highly desirable.
    • Strong knowledge of treatment processes, equipment, and operational optimisation.
    • Competent with instruments, analysers, and chemical handling.
    • Reliable, proactive, and able to work as part of a commissioning and operations team.
