Role Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Packing & Logistics Specialist to take ownership of packing, marking, preservation, and shipping governance across a portfolio of complex oil & gas equipment and materials. This role is responsible for ensuring that all goods are correctly protected, documented, and transported safely and compliantly from supplier facilities through to final delivery locations worldwide. You will act as the technical authority for packing and shipping specifications, ensuring full compliance with project requirements, international regulations, and best practice standards. The role also plays a key part in driving execution excellence through supplier engagement, inspection, and cross-functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Specification Ownership & Governance
    • Act as the single point of accountability for interpretation and enforcement of packing, marking, and shipping requirements.
    • Ensure supplier compliance with Incoterms® 2020, export controls, customs regulations, and project specifications.
    • Govern requirements relating to:
      • Packing, preservation, and handling procedures
      • HS codes, customs declarations, and shipping documentation
      • Hazardous materials and stored energy registers
      • Dual-use classifications and export compliance
  • Technical Review, Clarification & Approval
    • Review and approve supplier packing proposals for technical adequacy and compliance.
    • Ensure suitability for transport conditions including multimodal, abnormal, and out-of-gauge shipments.
    • Assess corrosion protection, internal bracing, sealing, lifting arrangements, and preservation methods.
    • Review and approve deviation requests where specifications cannot be met.
    • Ensure packaging design supports safe transport, storage duration, and environmental considerations.
  • Supplier Engagement & Inspection
    • Conduct supplier visits and shopfloor inspections to verify packing execution and compliance.
    • Witness packing activities and approve readiness for dispatch.
    • Review packing documentation, photographs, lifting drawings, and dispatch dossiers.
    • Drive corrective actions and reject non-compliant packing where required.
  • Logistics & Technical Assurance
    • Provide subject matter expertise on packing of heavy mechanical, electrical, and bulk materials.
    • Ensure correct packaging selection (cases, crates, pallets, drums, bundles, etc.).
    • Validate preservation systems including corrosion inhibitors, desiccants, and monitoring devices.
    • Confirm safe lifting points, securing methods, and transport cradle design.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Work closely with logistics, procurement, engineering, and project teams.
    • Ensure early visibility of weights, dimensions, and transport constraints.
    • Embed packing and shipping requirements into purchase orders and supplier contracts.
    • Support engineering teams in developing safe transport and lifting strategies.
  • Compliance, Risk & Documentation
    • Ensure compliance with export controls, customs regulations, and hazardous materials requirements.
    • Oversee accuracy of dispatch documentation including packing lists, MSDS, certificates of origin, and declarations.
    • Ensure correct application of international marking, labelling, and handling symbols.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Significant experience in logistics, packing, and transport within oil & gas or heavy engineering sectors.
  • Strong background in packing heavy, complex, and high-value equipment.
  • Experience in international shipping, customs processes, and compliance frameworks.
  • Knowledge of multimodal transport and abnormal load logistics.
  • Experience conducting supplier inspections, audits, and technical assessments.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field.
