About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Section (Senior Production) Engineer to join a major highways infrastructure project team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the successful delivery of a nationally significant scheme while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, sustainability, and operational excellence.
The successful candidate will play a key role in programme delivery, engineering management, quality assurance, and leadership of Site Engineers and Apprentices across the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Health, Safety & Wellbeing
- Fully comply with the project “Beyond Zero Harm” programme and Golden Rules at all times.
- Champion health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives across the project team and local communities.
- Submit a minimum of one weekly observation relating to safety or good practice.
- Produce specific Works Package Plans.
- Conduct and record weekly safety tours.
- Programme & Production
- Produce and manage three-week lookahead programmes aligned with the stage programme.
- Monitor progress and report programme variances.
- Apply Lean Production techniques to identify and reduce waste.
- Drive innovation and efficiency improvements across operations.
- Engineering & Design Management
- Review permanent and temporary works designs ahead of construction activities.
- Resolve technical queries with designers before works commence.
- Provide guidance and coaching to engineers on specifications, standards, and setting out.
- Quality Assurance
- Develop and refine Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) for self-delivered works in line with project specifications and standards.
- Review subcontractor ITP submissions.
- Conduct weekly audits of Site Engineer reports and records.
- Raise and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), ensuring corrective actions are completed within agreed timescales.
- Produce Material Approvals and review subcontractor submissions.
- Community Engagement
- Consider community and stakeholder requirements when preparing lookahead programmes.
- Liaise with Community and Communications teams to align project activities.
- Participate in community engagement initiatives and encourage Site Engineer involvement.
- Environmental Sustainability & Carbon
- Ensure lookahead programmes, Works Package Plans, and ITPs comply with the Environmental Management Plan and project carbon commitments.
- Monitor site compliance and report environmental breaches when necessary.
- Cost Management & Commercial
- Ensure lookahead programmes are appropriately resourced in line with the stage programme.
- Escalate programme or resource deviations to the Package Manager promptly.
- Verify accurate recording of resource usage by supervisors and Site Engineers.
- Procurement
- Oversee requisition processes delegated to Site Engineers or Logistics teams.
- Ensure plant and materials align with project specifications and cost plans.
- Train Site Engineers on requisition procedures and monitor compliance.
- Handover
- Produce and approve redline drawings and construction certificates.
- Support the preparation of O&M manuals and Health & Safety files.
- Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and coach Site Engineers and Apprentices.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
Candidate Requirements
Essential Experience & Skills
- Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within large-scale infrastructure or highways projects.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Sound knowledge of construction regulations, engineering standards, and industry best practices.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities to meet deadlines.
Qualifications & Competencies
- Engineering or Construction Management qualification.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- CSCS card.
- Fit for Work medical.
- Ability to pass a Pre-Start Drug & Alcohol Test.
- BPSS Security Clearance eligibility (including provision of a basic DBS check).
