We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Inspector to join our team supporting a major defence programme in Reading. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection and quality assurance of EC&I installations and associated systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications, applicable standards, and regulatory requirements within a nuclear/defence environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out inspection of electrical, control, and instrumentation installations in accordance with project specifications, drawings, and applicable standards.
- Witness and document testing activities including continuity testing, insulation resistance testing, and functional testing of C&I systems.
- Review and verify Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and ensure compliance throughout the construction and commissioning phases.
- Raise and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and ensure timely resolution of defects and deviations.
- Compile and maintain quality records, including lifetime records packages, concurrently with construction works.
- Liaise with engineering, construction, and commissioning teams to resolve EC&I-related quality issues.
- Verify compliance with the 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) across all relevant electrical installations.
- Support NPI (New Product Introduction) processes and inspection activities as required.
- Interface with client representatives, third-party inspection bodies, and subcontractors.
- Ensure all work is conducted safely and in accordance with site security and access requirements.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience in an EC&I inspection role within nuclear, defence, oil & gas, marine, or heavy industrial sectors.
- City & Guilds Electrical Qualification β Initial and Periodic Electrical Inspection and Testing (BS 2391).
- 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) certification.
- Proven ability to compile and maintain detailed inspection and quality records in line with project and client requirements.
- Familiarity with formal quality management systems (ISO 9001 or equivalent).
- Strong technical understanding of control and instrumentation systems, loop testing, and calibration processes.
- ATEX Qualifications β Ex01-04 (Gas) and Ex05-06 (Dust).
- Valid SC Clearance or willingness and eligibility to obtain clearance prior to commencement.
- Ability to work on-site Monday to Friday near Reading.
Desirable
- Previous experience working on nuclear or defence projects.
