Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Commissioning Engineer to support long-term electrical commissioning activities on a major industrial site. This is a fully site-based, long-term contract role operating inside IR35. The role focuses on the safe and compliant pre-commissioning and commissioning of high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems, ensuring readiness for integration into live operations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute electrical commissioning plans, including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
- Lead commissioning activities for HV and LV electrical equipment and distribution systems
- Provide technical leadership and support to Electrical Supervisors and Technicians
- Coordinate commissioning activities with internal electrical teams and OEM / vendor specialists
- Track, manage, and resolve Technical Queries (TQs) within the assigned scope
- Ensure all electrical works are executed safely and in compliance with site HV and LV safety rules
- Produce and maintain accurate commissioning records, including red-lined work packs for as-built documentation
- Establish and maintain commissioning progress reporting and readiness status
- Deliver Authority to Commission processes for electrical systems
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience commissioning HV switchgear, transformers, and protection systems
- Experience commissioning Variable Speed Drives (VSDs)
- Extensive electrical experience within Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, or similar heavy industrial environments
- Strong knowledge of 11kV and 415V electrical distribution systems
- Solid understanding of hazardous area classifications and electrical protection methods
- Knowledge of BS 7671 Wiring Regulations
- Familiarity with discipline-specific electrical commissioning practices
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or extensive experience as an Electrical Commissioning Engineer
- Prior Senior Authorised Person (SAP) status desirable

- Safety-focused, proactive, and hands-on approach
- Comfortable working in a live, operational site environment
