We are seeking experienced and driven Commissioning Engineers to join a leading delivery team working across complex Water and Wastewater Process Engineering projects. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with strong technical commissioning expertise who thrive in fast-paced project environments and are passionate about delivering safe, high-quality engineering solutions from design through to handover.
The Role
You will play a key role in overseeing commissioning and systems integration activities throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring safe, compliant, and timely delivery of installation and commissioning activities. Working closely with design teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and client stakeholders, you will support projects from Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) through to final handover and training. This role requires a proactive engineering professional capable of leading site activities, troubleshooting complex systems, and maintaining the highest SHEQ and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor supply chain performance against KPIs/KPMs and drive continuous improvement
- Promote SHEQ behavioural improvement initiatives across project teams
- Liaise with design teams, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure successful equipment setup and commissioning
- Verify equipment is FAT tested and snag-free prior to site delivery
- Develop commissioning plans, procedures, and project documentation
- Conduct FAT/SAT activities and manage defect close-out
- witness installation and commissioning activities, including subcontractor testing
- Ensure installation and commissioning activities are delivered snag-free and in line with quality standards and ITPs
- Review and interpret electrical/mechanical schematics, FDS, and P&IDs
- Coordinate installation and commissioning activities, including third-party engineers
- Manage process and M&E scope/programme changes and provide weekly project updates
- Produce reports and management briefings for senior stakeholders and clients
- Deliver training to operations and maintenance teams
- Support ECI through surveys, system reviews, and design input
- Configure and calibrate analytical equipment and integrate with monitoring systems
- Review and approve RAMS for commissioning activities
- Act as front-line supervisor during commissioning and installation phases
- Contribute to project close-out documentation and handover activities
About You
You will have proven experience delivering commissioning and installation activities within Water and Wastewater Process Engineering projects for a main contractor.
Essential Requirements
- HNC/Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline OR Engineering Apprenticeship with NVQ and relevant experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a commissioning role, preferably within the Water Industry
- Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical commissioning and installation processes
- Experience delivering projects through to handover
- Understanding of water/wastewater treatment processes
- Knowledge of relevant Standards, Safety Rules, and Statutory Legislation
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to self-manage while working effectively within project teams
- Strong engineering focus with the ability to challenge designs and deliver value engineering solutions
