Drive procurement excellence on major infrastructure projects and play a key role in delivering the UK's future! Hybrid working – 1 day per week from home. Our client is a leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor, delivering innovative and sustainable solutions across a diverse range of sectors including highways, rail, marine, energy, water, environmental, and major infrastructure projects.
Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit a Buyer to join their dynamic Procurement team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting project delivery by ensuring effective, compliant, and value-driven procurement across multiple projects.
As a Buyer, you will work closely with project teams, site teams, and the wider procurement function to deliver efficient and commercially sound procurement solutions. You will contribute across the full procurement lifecycle, from tender stage through to project delivery, helping ensure materials and subcontract packages are sourced effectively, competitively, and on time.
- Compile and issue subcontract and material enquiries for assessment by tender and project teams.
- Support the Senior Buyer and Procurement Manager throughout the tender settlement process, including engaging with key suppliers and subcontractors where required.
- Assist with the preparation of commercial proposals, tender submissions, discounts, and fixed-price allowances for review and approval.
- Liaise with procurement and site management teams on subcontract and materials procurement activities.
- Assist in developing procurement strategies for key packages and agree critical procurement programme dates.
- Ensure accurate document management and procurement record keeping.
- Deliver procurement activities in line with agreed project procurement strategies.
- Lead procurement packages where required through to subcontract review, appointment, and order placement.
- Review order number requests and ensure all procurement processes and governance requirements have been followed.
- Conduct supplier due diligence checks, including financial assessments, health and safety compliance, competency reviews, supervision capability, previous performance ratings, and database compliance.
- Support the effective and sustainable management of the supply chain, including supplier questionnaires and performance reviews.
- Carry out internal governance checks and ensure correct procurement documentation and procedures are being used.
- Assist with negotiations and commercial discussions across the supply chain.
- Maintain awareness of company objectives, procurement policies, and HSEQS procedures.
Experience within procurement, buying, or supply chain management. Good commercial awareness and negotiation capability. A collaborative approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects. Knowledge of procurement processes, governance, and compliance requirements.
