Job Overview
The Asset Integrity Authority is accountable for ensuring that asset integrity risks are identified, assessed, and controlled throughout the asset lifecycle. The role provides technical authority over integrity management systems, standards, and performance, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and company requirements to maintain safe, reliable, and compliant operations.
Key Accountabilities
- Act as the Technical and Competent Authority for Asset Integrity, providing oversight and assurance across mechanical, structural, corrosion, and process containment disciplines.
- Define, own, and maintain the Asset Integrity Management Framework, including policies, standards, and procedures.
- Ensure asset integrity risks are identified, assessed, and managed in line with the company's risk appetite.
- Analyse reliability data trends relating to safety-critical elements and maintenance activities across assets.
- Review failures of safety-critical equipment and associated maintenance and HSEQ issues, identifying root causes and recommending actions to mitigate operational and HSEQ risks, minimise future failures, and reduce costs.
- Develop and produce Asset Integrity reports in accordance with Business Management System (BMS), Maintenance Management System (MMS), HSEQ reporting requirements, and corporate standards to support management decision-making.
- Utilise SAP to analyse planned and corrective maintenance activities.
- Support discipline engineers with failure investigations where required.
- Facilitate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations and ensure timely close-out of actions.
- Manage Independent Verification Body (IVB) inspections, Lloyd's Register studies, and other third-party reliability assessments or specialist contractors as required.
- Ensure maintenance integrity procedures meet required HSEQ standards and provide assurance that the organisation has the necessary systems, processes, information, and controls to operate safely and effectively.
- Administer, manage, and monitor asset integrity assurance and Written Verification Scheme activities.
- Provide technical input into maintenance strategies, including condition-based monitoring programmes for asset equipment.
- Provide response support to Asset Integrity Leads as required.
- Act as a Lead Investigator using Kelvin Top-Set investigation methodologies to support business requirements.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably associated with the role.
Competence & Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of the UK regulatory environment, industry standards, and best practice relating to asset integrity management.
- Sound understanding of engineering principles and their practical application within operational environments.
- Knowledge of QA/QC principles, relevant legislation, and HSEQ management systems and standards (including ISO and OHSAS frameworks).
- Understanding of maintenance management systems and verification schemes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in reliability, maintenance, and asset performance analysis.
- Experience using SAP or equivalent Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
Qualifications
- Degree-qualified in an Engineering or Technology discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
- Formal training and practical experience in incident and event investigation methodologies, such as Kelvin Top-Set.
- Relevant experience in Asset Integrity, Reliability Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, or a related technical discipline within a high-hazard industry.
Experience
- Significant experience within asset integrity, maintenance, reliability, or engineering assurance roles.
- Experience working within regulated, high-hazard industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical, energy, nuclear, manufacturing, or maritime sectors.
- Demonstrable experience in managing asset integrity risks and assurance programmes.
- Experience leading technical investigations and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Proven ability to engage with regulators, verification bodies, contractors, and senior stakeholders.
