Mechanical Technician Location: Northwich, Cheshire Negotiable Salary Permanent Are you a Mechanical Technician looking for your next opportunity? A leading engineering company that maintain the largest onshore natural gas storage asset in the UK is looking for a skilled and safety-oriented Mechanical Technician to join the Gas Plant Operations & Maintenance team at their site in Northwich, Cheshire. This role is vital in supporting the safe and efficient operation of their gas handling assets, ensuring the protection of both personnel and the environment. As a Mechanical Technician, you’ll perform maintenance tasks, manage mechanical isolations, and oversee contractors to guarantee the highest standards of safety, quality, and operational efficiency. This position is ideal for a hands-on professional with a solid background in the oil, gas, or chemical industries and a commitment to process safety. Key Responsibilities: Mechanical Technician Conduct maintenance activities safely and in compliance with site procedures, safety rules, and best practices. Report safety events, equipment issues, or environmental hazards to your Line Manager, while proactively identifying potential risks. Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team when required. Prepare and document safe systems of work, with the goal of becoming an authorised person. Apply mechanical isolations, issue isolation documentation, and perform gas testing before authorising work activities. Troubleshoot, investigate, and resolve operational issues to bring systems back online safely. Oversee maintenance contractors to ensure safety, compliance, and quality on all tasks. Complete routine testing and inspections, documenting results in our Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Lead projects and assist in the training of new team members. Participate in an on-call rota (about one week every three weeks). Key Requirements: Mechanical Technician Ideally 5 years in operations/maintenance of processing plants/equipment within oil & gas, chemical or COMAH industries. Hands-on experience with mechanical maintenance is essential. Overall awareness of work safety & general HSE knowledge is required. Strong mechanical skills and ideally experience as an Appointed Person. Recognised Mechanical apprenticeship and NVQ Level 3 are required. HNC in Mechanical Engineering and Health & Safety qualifications (IOSH, NEBOSH) are desirable. Familiarity with CMMS systems like Maximo is beneficial. Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work autonomously, effective communication, and commitment to continuous improvement.
