As a result of the growth in the Data Centre markets across the UK and Europe, the team now needs an experienced Electrical Engineering Design Manager to join their team in the North West of England. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional to drive innovation and excellence within a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
As the Electrical Engineering Design Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the design and development of electrical systems for the firm's diverse range of critical power solutions. Leading the UK electrical engineering design team, you will provide guidance, support, and mentorship, to ensure the delivery of high-quality, compliant designs that meet industry standards and customer requirements. Your expertise will contribute to the success of projects across various sectors, from data centres to financial institutions.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the UK electrical design team, providing guidance, support, and mentorship.
- Oversee the design and development of electrical drawings and associated Bill of Materials (BOM's) for all products.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards and regional regulations.
- Manage resource allocation to align with planning management functions and project timelines.
- Maintain Electrical Design CAD Blocks and libraries to ensure compliance.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless project execution.
- Conduct design reviews and provide technical expertise to the projects team.
- Contribute innovatively to improve business best practices.
- Provide technical support to internal teams as required.
- Maintain accurate and complete design records in line with document control functions.
- Participate in team development and goal achievement initiatives.
- Drive continuous improvement activities within engineering.
- Promote proactive risk identification, mitigation, and resolution throughout the project lifecycle.
- Resolve technical queries both internally and externally.
Requirements:
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering (BEng/MEng/CEng preferred) or equivalent industry experience in a relevant field.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in Electrical Design or Electrical Engineering, ideally within mission-critical, industrial, or infrastructure environments.
- Proven leadership and team management skills, with experience mentoring engineers and driving project success.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential; experience with AutoCAD Electrical, E-Plan, or Promis-e is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of LV distribution systems, PLCs, interlocking, small power & lighting, AC/DC power supplies, and earthing systems.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply product standards, customer specifications, and electrical schematics/single-line diagrams.
- Experience using PLM tools (e.g., Autodesk Vault) and ERP systems is an advantage.
- Analytical and detail-oriented mindset, with a proactive, hands-on, and adaptable approach to problem-solving.
- Exceptional communication skills —verbal, written, and presentational—with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- Full, valid driving license with flexibility for occasional travel as required.
