AI is reshaping what a data centre needs to be, and the heat has to go somewhere. My client, a UK designer and manufacturer of prefabricated data centres and secure buildings, is hiring a senior engineer to lead the technical side of their bids for high-density and AI compute facilities, including work for a Tier 1 technology company.
This is a hands-on role. You’ll own the design and the number, not just the slide.
What you’ll do
- Lead technical discovery with customers: rack densities, liquid/air heat split, resilience, footprint, security and growth
- Personally design cooling for AI workloads: direct liquid cooling, CDUs, rear-door heat exchangers, chilled/warm water systems, with your own calcs on flow, pipe sizing and pump duties
- Produce CAD layouts, sections and schematics, and integrate M&E into prefabricated modules from factory to site
- Build detailed Excel pricing, challenge supplier quotes and separate base scope from options
- Present and defend complete solutions to engineers, end customers and senior decision-makers
- Coordinate secure-building measures and NPSA requirements with security specialists
What you’ll bring
- Senior mechanical/building services design experience in data centres or critical infrastructure
- Recent, practical experience with high-density and liquid cooling
- Proven personal CAD drawing and Excel estimating skills
- Confidence in front of customers
- Secure building/NPSA experience, or the ability to pick it up quickly
Nice to have: modular/prefab experience, defence or secure projects, existing UK clearance, CEng, Revit/BIM.
Candidates must be willing to undergo UK security vetting.
A rare chance to sit right where AI demand meets buildable engineering, with real influence on design and commercials.
